If you have a smart phone get a call blocker program. I know there are a bunch of free ones for the symbian s60 platform (n95 and other nokia smartphones).

I always get calls from a "private" caller and when I answer it beeps about every 2 seconds. I have ignored the calls but it just goes to voicemail and I end up getting a 5 minute message of just beeps... so annoying.

I assumed is was telemarketing computer but how do they get cell numbers seeing that they aren't listen in phone books? Does telus or any other major companies sell personal information?

A beep every 2 seconds would usually indicate a fax machine or a computer calling you. I would check with your Voice Mail provider, as both my Panasonic answering machine at home and my Telus cell phone's voice mail are both smart enough to only give me 2 or 3 beeps before ending the VM.

Oh sorry, that was me. I like to dial random numbers and listen to people breathe on the other end.

This is my problem as well and Im also with Telus for my cell. Either it's from an impossible number (999-0000) or from a "restricted" number. I usually get the calls around 9am every other morning. When I pick up, it just beeps. So effing annoying.

I had the silent calls on my Telus cell phone. I just called Telus, and they changed my number. They gave me three options:

- Call the police, which probably wont result in anything.
- Don't answer the phone, which wasn't an answer I was ready to accept.
- Change the number. They said they'd do it for free as well. That's right, a rare situation of customer service from Telus!

I went with option C, and I haven't gotten them since. If you're with a carrier, and someone says they can't do anything, either ask them to find someone who can, cause the CSR probably can't do anything, at all... or threaten to change providers to someone who can handle the issue.

They started calling my cell today, which annoys the hell out of me. Once, I can deal with, but all throughout the day is amazingly annoying.

When they call my folks, the CID shows either "Ontario" or "Michigan"
