I've always said that a strong prime minister would go on the air during the next referendum and state

You want to seperate, find seperate, but your going to pay your share of the national debt before you go, compensate Canada for Federal property and infrastructure. Hold a referendum for the Natives on whether or not they want to join your country. Pay taxes on the use of the sea lanes. You will have no representation in Parliment, and every Quebec citizen working for the Federal Government will be terminated immediately upon your declaration. You cannot share our currency nor our passports. All Federal contracts will be cancelled immediately as well. All members of the RCMP and the military will be removed immediately. You cannot share our embassies abroad and Quebec will no longer be represented by Canada at the G8 or the UN.

If you want to be your own country, then be your own country.

Vote for Me, Vote for Me.

I would love for the federal government to say that, and then see what their response would be.

I have heard that if the Natives didn't want to join, this Quebec "Country" would only have about 1/3 of the Provinces land mass to actually leave Canada with.

Thats about right, and Quebec would lose a bunch of their hydro industry.

While we're at it, Montreal should get its own referedum as well.

Seriously, Quebec is not a country becasue the Quebecois don't want it to be. So stop being a narrow-minded imbecile and stamping an agenda on what is simply supposed to be one heck of a party.

"I really like Paul McCartney, but in this context, this is the last straw," Mr. Curzi said. "There is a clear Canadianization of the 400th celebrations. It is becoming a political gesture that tarnishes his presence."
Really? That's a political gesture? I think the seperatists are the ones who politicized this, and really, they're nothing more than another special interests group who would sacrifice the majority (small majority, but majority nonetheless) for their own greedy purposes.

And why shouldn't it be "Canadianized", you are in Canada of your own volition, are you not? Quebec is Canada's first city, you think the rest of Canada should just stay home? Sure, you were conquered 400 years ago but the reality is that Quebec is a part of Canada because it wants to be, so stop whining about it. Last time I checked, the French and the English are not at war, and have been allies far more often over, say the last hundred years, than they've been enemies. I mean if this the United States sending Britney Spears to Bagdad to celebrate it's birthday, I could see why people might be upset, but Quebec is not an occupied country, nor is it a country, nor does it want to be a country, nor is there anything stopping it from becoming a country should it choose to do so.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was in Quebec City at the Citadelle, Cheateau Frontenac, and the Plains of Abraham on vacation last week. Judging from a couple of spray painted signs this is exactly the attitude of their authors who are presumed to be residents of Quebec City. One section of the boardwalk between the Citadelle and the Chateau Frontenac had a sparypainted message that said "Quebec Libre" with swastikas surrounding it. A few staircases later a bold message for us anglo tourists was spraypainted in similar fashion saying in the most polite way "Canadians f*^%ing go home"

While these were certainly unwelcome signs, my overall experience there was very positive. From the really hot blond chick at the information desk who taught me a couple of useful french phrases and a few other things to help us get around the city, to the staff at the historical sites, to the servers in the restaurant we visited, to the QPP cop who politely only gave me a warning for speeding 34 km/h over the limit on the autoroute going into town; if they believed or aspoused to any of the beliefs being said by this sovereignist they certainly did not let any of it show and willfully played the role of gracious hosts. There are only losers when comments like these are made. The losers are all of the wonderful people of Quebec City who want to use this occasion to showcase their home town on the world stage. Comments such as these only help to ruin wonderful festivities to mark the anniversary of the founding of a beautiful city.
