The tuk tuk drivers that didn't take me to those stores, charged me 3x times what a cab SHOULD of been anyways.

There is not an honest person in that city. Everyone is working together to somehow screw you or waste your time.

Clearly everyone is trying to screw you, but if you make a deal with the Tuk Tuk driver before you get in you can pretty much always get a good deal.

Dealing with Tuk Tuk drivers was easy in Thailand.. it's no different from any other place in the world, just agree upon the price beforehand.

When we were in Bangkok a guy stopped us and tried to get us onto a Tuk Tuk, we were on our Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha temple in Bangkok), and the guy said it was closed because "the monks were eating".

We found it more common sense than anything.

Plus if your hostel/hotel/whatever is close to the sky train, you don't need to worry too much about transportation.

Bangkok is my favourite big city in the world.

I got screwed on a tuk tuk even though I agreed on a price before getting on. The guy changed the price and location after a couple blocks, I told him to pull over and I jumped out. He was pissed. Stay away, they're dangerous, they rip you off, give bad advice, and the worst part is that they waste your time.

Bump.

I'm looking to head to Thailand in August, and seeing as some of you seem fairly experienced in the region I thought I'd see if anybody had any recommendations. I've been to Bangkok before, so I'm good on the avoiding tuk tuk schemes advice, but I haven't seen the rest of the country.

Chang Mai and Koh Tao are at the top of my list right now, but if there are other places you guys enjoyed I'd appreciate the insights. Any hotels or activities that stood out would also be appreciated.
