I'm pretty sure that their populations are small enough that it wouldn't have that big of an impact on the ecosystem if we "took care of them."

Anyway, I'm sure my opinion on this won't be popular, but I would be much happier and we would all be safer if we just killed every last bear.
If you just make noise bears stay away cause they're just as scared as you...

oh my. Is this even for real?

The bear I saw an hour ago is much more welcome around me than the originator of this thread.

I'm all for killing some bears, but killing all bears is just silly. There are really 4 categories of bears. There are useless bears which are dangerous, useless bears which are not dangerous, useful bears which are dangerous, and useful bears which are not dangerous.

Really, what should be done is we should kill all useless bears which are dangerous, keep all bears which are not dangerous regardless of their usefulness, and allow bears which are both useful and dangerous to exist only in strictly controlled farming conditions. That way you have nothing to fear in the wild yet maintain the existing ecosystem, and our economy retains its ability to export aphrodisiac bear organs to asia, bear rugs and trophy-heads to the US, and bear claw necklaces to chaches and ######bags internationally. We also retain the ability to sell bear hunting licences to rich pricks, thus subsidizing the depleted fisheries of the maritime provinces.

Really, if anything should be killed off in its entirety, it's squirrels. They're like rats with good PR. And they're all useless. And they think they're so smart. God I hate squirrels.

I don't know if we'd be safer -- though eliminating this kind of stupidity can't be bad -- but I'd be much happier if you were dead.
.........lol Peddle, that was good.

Screw that... If we're going to purposely exterminate a species, lets kill off mosquitoes. Fish be damned, I want mosquitoes dead.

Maybe you should be exterminated for being in their woods and bothering them? Bears are not difficult to scare away or to keep away (loud noises, bells).

I've run into a grizzly before 3 feet in front of me, I am still alive today.

Being in nature means you are subject to the laws of the wild. Should we exterminate all sharks so that kids can swim in the ocean?

I saw a grizzly 2 days ago. It was eating grass within eye sight of where I was working. I didn't feel threatened at all.

BTW, what does extermination of bears have to do with political correctness?

I grew up in Jasper National Park.... I am more scared of drunks after the bars close in the city than a bear anyday. Not to mention in the mountains, Elk have more tendancies to attack than bears. I really hope you werent serious when making this thread....

What a coward

I love how we all know this thread is a joke, but we all jump in anyway instead of letting it die.

And if it's not a joke. Shame...

That would be difficult, what catergorizes them as useless?

It seems all animals have a part played in the ecosystem!

Well, ugly bears would be useless, since tourists don't want to see them. And garbage eating bears would be useless since they don't contribute to the ecosystem. And bears whose organs are not known for their aphrodisiac qualities would also be useless, unless they were also aesthetically pleasing bears that tourists would like. Of course, a useless bear could become useful if properly trained for circus performances but, again, it would have to be non-dangerous.

Basically, I think you'd have to do some research into trends among different bear species, and possibly have a bear expert assess the bears' utility on a case by case basis.

Uh...

Give your head a shake. Garbage bears eat garbage thus less garbage thus good for the ecosystem....

Sheesh.

When I read threads like this, or threads on banning drive throughs, on banning this, banning that, well I come to the conclusion that a lot of people simply have too much idle time at their disposal.
