Having no respect for Cops is absolutely ridiculous, these guys get paid a bad wage to put there life on the line and protect the people

I can vouch that this happens as I have seen it, actually twice. most recentlly was about two months ago, I was stopped at the lights on McNight just past deerfoot when a cop comes flying past us with his lights on and turns down the street to go to Canada Post depot, he then turns down the back road and turns off his lights and whips into the Timmies through the enterance that you are not allowed to as well.
I have respect for most police but it gets hard when you see things like this.

Do you guys not think it is possible for there to have been a call for them to attend to at the Hortons? You guys see cops doing something you THINK is out of order, but you don't really have a clue as to what they may have been doing. All of a sudden cops are scum bags because of what you are assuming.

I'm not assuming anything.
An off-duty police officer told me that at least in his district they don't recycle batteries, and as much as he knew none of them did. So forget the other districts. Speaking for his one district alone would account for about 10,000 dollars worth of batteries in a year.
This is everything from vehicles to walkie talkies to computers to watches...
If it is true, its disgusting.

Same plate number. Doubt me if you wish.
Last time I called 9-1-1 was when someone had vandalized one of our vehicles in front of our house. Took them almost 3 hours to show up on a Sunday afternoon. He had a fresh coffee in his hand when he came to the door too. Granted it wasn't a life or death situation, but coming to the door with coffee? Not allowed.

I am not talking about battery recycling. I am referring to the people mad that cops apparently go lights and siren to get their coffee.
But you guys crying about batteries not being recycled...I'm not going to get into it. I'll just say there are a lot better things to be worried about than that.

What are you calling 911 for when it was vandalism?? About him having a coffee in his hand, he wasn't exactly investigating a homicide. I truly don't think people have the slightest clue as to how busy these guys actually are in a city like Calgary. Just being able to stop for a coffee is probably a blessing.

Do you know that the city landfills are nowhere near far enough away from coppperfield/mckenzie towne to have uncontaminated soil from batteries?
You want to build your home on that soil? Its worth worrying about in that its entirely preventable and with no real effort either.
If I was talking about beer bottles you'd probably be more sympathetic.

911 is for emergencies. A broken car window is not an emergency. That's why it took "so long". Also they are humans, not robots, they do need sustenance to make it through a day.

I think he meant more that he brought it to the door.
Personally, I couldn't care. I don't drink coffee in front of my customers, but I'm not obligated to take a bullet for them if need be.

Well, you ARE from EDMONTON!!!
So to add to the thread:
I just had two uniformed cops in. They have recycling at each station. Can't say everyone uses it all the time, but they're there.
My apologies to the CPS.

the guy couldn't have been ordering his coffee when the call came in? and you expect the police to come rushing to such a low priority call?

doesn't happen.
could have been a call there.
could have been responding to a call, and then told to disregard the call and go on his break.

Personally I don't care if cops use their lights to get to their donuts faster. If I was a cop I'd probably do it once in awhile like on nights that happen to be hectic or short staffed and I know that this may be my only few minutes to grab a coffee for the next four hours.
Perks of the job as far as I'm concerned. Just like lawyers getting free legal advice and realtors not paying commission, cops get to where they're going faster than the rest of us, if and when they want to.

Happens all the time.
The thing I find pretty humorous about these threads is really how little knowledge these people have of the profession they appear to be experts on. There is simply little understanding of police-what they do and how they do it. Yet, people take the time to post absolutely moronic and uninformed stories to propagate there obvious disdain for police.

I may have a prejudice disdain for Police Officers, but in this case I found out the truth and apologized. Not that I took your post as anything personal.

Next time you see a police officer turning on his lights to go through an intersection, I think we can all now safely assume that he is rushing to get his batteries to the recycling depot before they destroy the earth.
Seriously, though, I can totally see certain Tim Hortons as regular 911 users for public disturbances, particular the 24 hour ones in areas where there is a lot of drug trade.

I LOLed at dialing 9-1-1 for a broken window, that was a fantastic anecdote.
I love how things like putting on the flashers to get through a light are seen as morally repugnant by some on here; it's almost as if the guys put on their flashers, swerved to smash an old lady with a walker, scream out loud, "50 points!" while cackling, then screeched into the Tim Horton's parking lot and high-fived each other while the poor old crone lays dying in the intersection.
