Maybe they should boycott electricity from "dirty" sources as well.

I'm not really sure how Oilsands and stuff work, but how is a boycott like this even possible? Doesn't oil have to be refined into gasoline? If so, how do they know where their gasoline is refined from? The ban is for fueling the citie's public vehicles right? Are they going to somehow refuse to buy from any fuel supplier that has ties with the tar sands? If so, well, good luck with that I guess.

You are right. There is no way to determine what the source of the gas/diesel was once it gets to the station.
A better more viable solution, would be for the cities to make a commitment to use Hybrids for all municipal vehicles.

laughable. Let them buy pricey oil from the friggin terrorists instead, there's a huge market for alberta oil.

North America should really get an agreement in place for free trade. Then bogus stuff like this wouldn't happen....
