the BMI is a joke. Mine is 27.1 and I'm a guy who did an 8 hour mountain bike race on June 1.

I jog every morning, sometimes at night. When I first started out, it was awful. Struggling for breath, sweating horribly, watching 60 somethings breeze past me, it was embarrassing. Now, I find it really relaxing.

Don't know what my BMI is and I don't really care. I feel pretty good.

Yeah, I can't do jogging or treadmill because my knees are junk. Bike seems to work out alright for me.

Do you use the patch during those things? Or are you allowed to light up during the race?

ROFL! I quit smoking 6 years ago. Though a good decade ago I used to smoke waiting for my slower friends to climb the hills. They really liked that.

I found with the BMI that it was very poor at taking the larger heights into account. as a result anyone over 6 feet has to be pretty skinny not to be categorized as overweight.

BMI is a crap measure for anyone in any semblance of shape.

My BMI is around 24.1, while my BF% is 14.3%.

Having said that, I should probably do the old workout tonight....

Someone might have said it already, but BMI does not take muscle mass into account. Technically, I'd be considered overweight by BMI's standards.

it doesn't work for anyone. Especially if you carry any kind of muscle. I'm no Schwarzennegger by any account, but my legs are big which messes up the scale.

I'd like to reiterate that BMI is a joke. I'm 6'4 200 lbs, and would never, ever, be described as fat. And yet my BMI is quite close to "overweight".

No wonder so many people are considered overweight or obese, the metric they used is f***ed. Specious fearmongering.

Dunno, using my own danometric there are tons of overweight people and quite a few obese people. Now it's not that bad in Canada, but my last few trips down south(LA, LV) i've really started to notice how excessively fat our southern neighbours are becoming.(and how rude they are but thats another thread)

And i fear it's creaping up here too, I like a good hearty meal as much as the next person but the shear size of portions some restuarants cook up is astounding.

Darn rights more and more people are becoming obese.

And they don't measure using BMI either.

As seems to be the common theme in this thread - the BMI is garbage. I am 6'1 190 and my "BMI" tells me I am overweight. Despite the fact my body fat levels were measured with calipers last week and I am under 10% - go figure. Forgot "BMI" if you wanna know if you overweight ot obese go get you bodyfat measured - if you're over 20% you got some work to do.

All your bases are belong to us.
