There is not an ounce of truth to be found anywhere near that statement. As someone who had a completely torn acl, I was able to run, play hockey, ski, whatever on it 90% of the time with no problems after a scope to fix up the miniscus and cartilege. Outside of the first couple weeks when I was on crutches, I had no trouble bending down or walking. He tore it last year, so he'd have no trauma from the acl tear itself by now. The thing that made me eventually opt for the acl reconstruction surgery was that was easy to re-injure, hyperextend, give out etc. I am guessing the torn acl itself was not the problem, but the root of other problems. After recovering from the initial trauma, a torn acl is completely pain free, and does not inhibit movement whatsoever, and that is essentially the problem, it offers no support and you end up messing up other parts of your leg and knee when doing high intensity activities.
As to your other statement, did you even watch the tournament. Many of his winces were after some of his best shots.

+1. Pure rubbish.
I tore everything 9 years ago.
Besides a scope myself to clear up the cartilege floating around which caused locking up in the first 6 months, day to day its pain free. I can still play ice hockey, run, golf (its my back leg, not my front leg that takes all the pressure and weight on it like Woods) etc. Just no court sports or soccer, where you have a leg that has to be planted and have all its weight on it. Only where I have to plant that leg and have all the weight on it, combined with lateral movement, does it have issues. Then, like a rubber band, it gives out...hurts for a few minutes, and is sore/wobbly for a couple days. I figure that's more the mcl getting a bit stratined, as I have no ACL left, and it doesn't heal on its own.
My doctor advised me a couple years back when I thought about the reconstruction not to bother yet...my dad is first hand how arthritis will attack the knee and the whole body 25 or so years down the road, so sooner then later I will get it done, but day to day I am fine, and just about to get a custom fit brace to I can do those things I couldn't before, again.
As for Woods hobbling, pretty clear its when he follows through on that front (left) knee and transfers all the lateral interia onto that planted knee that it likely buckles or near buckles, and shoots a pain through your whole leg...not that far from giving out like the above mentioned rubber band.
That weeping you hear from the southern 48 is TV execs who just lost their star attraction and basically only reason 1/3 of viewers tune in any given weekend to watch golf, for the rest of the year...Ryder Cup too.

Bite the bullet and get it done. I wished I had done it years before I eventually did. I worked out my leg 4 days a week and 5 days on the bike for the 2 months before the surgery and I really believe it helped cut my recovery time in half of what they said it would be. I remember getting back on the bike a week later, and doing medium activity after a month, and testing it pretty good after 3 months. Its been about 10 years now, and I've not a single thing wrong with the knee. I even ran a marathon this year.

I had the reconstruction surgery done 15 years ago this month, solid as a rock now. I'd recommend getting it done as well. Work hard in recovery and you'll be good as new.

Did I say he was crap? He is an amazing golfer, the best there ever was, no question. But with a bad shot came a fake wince. He didn't wince in pain for any good shots.
Maybe next time if I call him crap your comment would make sense? Or maybe it would make sense if I said he lost? Those are two things I did not say. You missed the boat I guess.

Maybe I missed your meaning, but it doesn't make your comment that you think he is faking it any less ridiculous.

IMO he's a big faker and is doing all of this for even more publicity.
I hate him even more now.

Thats funny my girlfriend tore both her ACLs playing soccer and was able to play sports for about 3 years before getting them both fixed.

This is simply not true.
As nfotiu stated earlier, he had bad shots without wincing, and had some great shots while wincing. I am tired of all of the Tiger love myself, as was I when Jordan was running the show in the NBA. (I tend to root for the underdogs)
What Tiger did this weekend was not staged. He's better than 99.9% of the golfers in the world with a bad leg.

That's too bad, but I'm sure he'll dominate once he's healed.

Oh and I also saw Tiger roll his eyes when he gave Rocco a hug at the end of it. Earlier in the tournament I am sure he gave the middle finger to everyone too.
He's mean and a faker.
Tiger: "Hey Mr. Doctor man, I will give you $100,000 to tell everyone I am really hurt".
Doctor: "Sure Tiger!"
See, it really is a simple process. Now Tiger gets to relax on some resort while everyone thinks he is recovering.

Wow...how ridiculous.
Why would he need ANYONE to say ANYTHING so as to not play?
He doesnt HAVE to play any events if he wishes not to....so what would bribing some mythical doctor do to make it any more legitimate?
Tiger can relax at his OWN resort any time he feels like it fer chrissakes.
The hate for this guy is beyond pathetic.
What did he ever do to you people anyhow?

It isn't that he is winning, it is just the amount of coverage he gets.
It is a like a great song that gets played so much on the radio that you begin to hate it.
Tiger is a phenomenal player and wonderful to see the shots he comes up with; but I get frustrated when he isn't in contention and they still follow his every shot. I understand why the networks do it. But personally, unless Tiger is in contention or making a run, I would rather see the guys who are fighting for the lead.
So it isn't Tiger that bug me, it is the amount of coverage he gets. It is the same with any celebrity who gets over-exposed.

ANYWAYS, ya he is whiny. He's the best in the world but I always root against him.

Don't blame Tiger for that, blame the rest of the PGA for not providing him with a proper challenge.
No one has emerged in the last 10 years in golf that is good enough or has an engaging enough personality to draw even away a bit of the spotlight.
Golf has been STARVED for someone to step up to challenge Tiger. It hasn't happened. The closest is Lefty and he does indeed get his fair of coverage.
After that though - who else is there?
Golf is actually REALLY lacking star power right now outside Tiger, and his absence will either highlight that fact, or give someone the opportunity to get a piece of the action.
None of that though is Tiger's fault.

Hey Grant, how is your knee anyways? Have you miraculously recovered from your surgery like everyone else here?
Knee surgery is a tricky thing, I know mine took a LONG time to get better.

No I've definitely not recovered.
Was going to post in the thread about that but decided not to derail further.
But yeah - ACL surgery is not a sure thing. Had mine done 1.5 years ago, and it still is far from right. I can't get the frickin thing straight.
Recently had it scoped to remove scar tissue and that's helping a bit - but its still far from perfect.

Tiger won 9 of his last 12 tournaments with a torn ACL. An amazing feat, but what does this say about golf as an athletic sport? In what other sports could you still dominate with a wrecked ACL?

Joe Nieuwendyk played hockey for years without an ACL at a very high level. Won a Conn Smythe in that time. Knee braces are a wonderful thing.
