Paul Newman is easily in the top ten greatests actors. Personally I'd rather watch him over Brando. Norton has many years to go to catch Newman.

Paul Newman is great if only for his Newman's own line of foods where all profits are donated to charity.

I think you guys missed the point. Other than Cool Hand Luke and Slap Shot I've never seen a Paul Newman movie. Whereas I've seen dozens of Chuck Heston movies and Marlon Brando movies.

Paul Newman means nothing to me. I know he's a great actor but I could care less because he's not a favorite actor of mine because I'm too young to appreciate his work. I'm sure he's a great actor I just don't have any special affinity for his work.

How can you be too young to appreciate Newman's work but have seen dozens of Hesston and Brando movies?

Not trying to be a jerk at all, but your statement was sort of contradictory.

An 83 year old smoker with cancer...shocking! My claims to fame was when he bummed a smoke off me in the pits at the 89 molson indy in Toronto, he lit it, rolled his eyes and said "how can you people smoke these things up here?" I quipped back..beggars can't be choosers eh!" he laughed and walked away.

One of my all time favorite actors

Well I'm not really a fan but further than that he hasn't captivated me with his performances like other actors that are not of my generation. I'm sure he's great and all and I've even seen portions of his other movies but to me he's just another actor from a previous generation.

So while I am too young to appreciate his work I have made a concious effort to see out the work of guys like Brando where Newman I don't really care for.

That being said it does suck that he's going to die.

So, I'm guessing you couldn't care less?

Well Dis, young can probably be interchanged with a couple of other words.

I'm not sure if I should be offended by that or not. But you are actually correct.

I more or less meant that I think people of a previous generation are probably more likely to appreciate Paul Newmans work because to me he isn't the kind of generation crossing star like Brando.

Think of it like this: I'm going to be sad when Jimmy Page dies but won't be too upset when the guitarist from Grand Funk Railroad dies. Know what I mean? Zeppelin transcends generations, Grand Funk not so much (although they're still not bad or anything).
