It's kinda of funny all the things that we try to get heritage status for here in Canada but if you think about it, most of them are under 100 years old and by European standards...don't have any heritage at all.
It was built in 1877, so it was 131 years old. I think it qualified.

I think it is cool you used it as an avatar, at least something good came out of it.

On a positive note due to the city not making an effort to save the building the Ontario Fire Marshall's office will be investigating and not our crappy city's, thank god! There is a belief in this city the owner and the city were in some kind of financial arrangement where they would support the owner's desire to tear the building down. This one could get ugly with out of town investigation teams brought in.

St. Thomas Police have declared tonight the cause of the fire was definitely arson.

Awsome pics of the fire, I gotta say, strange fire, it does not look like it was burning from the bottom but from the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.

My grandmother went to school there in the early 1900s.

Very sad occurrence, it should have been preserved. Other buildings of more questionable heritage value have been saved.

My office is 30 km's (downtown London) or so from there and you could see the smoke.

Arrests in Alma fire
In court this morning
St. Thomas police said today that two youths have been arrested and charged with arson in connection with Wednesday's fire which destroyed Alma College.

They said the two boys, ages 15 and 16, appeared before Justice Leonard Obokata in Ontario Court of Justice this morning and are scheduled to be back in court Monday. They were remanded into custody.

The arrests were made late Thursday.
