If you do not believe the sign, do not drive! I've noticed a lot seniors come to a full stop. Is this a new sign Alberta implemented within the past 40 years? We need cops to start handing out tickets for this.
That sign is just shocker . . . er shocking

The lack of free flow lane is perhaps my biggest driving pet peeve. I honk at cars as well, especially the ones that come to their complete stop, directly beside the free flow sign. I often point at it, but that doesn't help matters.

You know whats super hilarious, the lights at Shagannappi and Edgemont Blvd are out right now. I'd estimate 75% of the people are blowing right through the intersection. This includes a bunch of city buses.

How do those people get their licenses? Do you not hear the reminders on the radio all the time, lights out means 4 way stop.

YES, You have the lane, use the whole thing because I am going to.

Example of this, Getting on the W-bound glenmore from 14st.

Oh wow do I ever hate those people, so many near accidents because of that. Another bad thing is merging. When you are merging into an 80 km/h road, please accelerate to 80 km/h

The highway people don't put signs 100's of metres before the lane ends because they have shares in sign companies. They put them there to tell you to start moving over.
You are the reason traffic is backed up.

If everyone merged at the same point in the lane traffic would flow smoother. What actually happens is people change lanes when they feel like it resulting in more traffic entering the lane before it should leading to a backup. When a lane ends is where you should merge, not when you get a feeling like you want to change lanes.

They don't just decide to end a lane, it happens at a spot that works the best for traffic flow.

The reason they put signs up before the end of the lane is so people in both lanes know what is going on and can prepare for the merge.

In the same vein, I hate it when people won't let you merge in. If I'm going 80 in a merge lane, please show some very basic courtesy and let me the hell in. I realize I don't have the right of way, but we have to share the bloody road.

The exit ramp from the Talisman Center has a merge sign that no one obeys. I am sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that there isn't much time and space to get all the way into the far lane so you can doubleback to go north on McLeod, but even people who are planning to drive south in the near lane still yield.

One thing that irks me about merge lanes is people who are already in the lane but don't adjust their driving accordingly to allow other people to actually merge. It takes two to tango people.

F--- I hate driving.

Don't drive in Lethbridge, the home of merging at half the speed limit.

They are the lowest form of filth and should be executed on site.

I hate it when people do that as well.

Does anybody have that link to the traffic simulator that we had the last time this came up? Because IIRC that put an end to this arguement pretty quick.

I disagree. If you have bumper to bumper traffic in the left and right lanes, how can everyone just merge freely when the right lane ends? It doesn't work. If you can see that a lane is ending, get over, don't wait. I make it a point to not let idiots in that speed up to the front of the right lane just to get as far ahead as possible.

where's my good buddy 4X4!??

this thread was made for us. I find it really annoying when people don't know how to, or can't, drive properly. I would never get mad at someone for driving properly and legally.

My favorite is the merge from 14th to Glenmore west too, because I go right to the end and people get mad. I do this from Crowchild to Glenmore East on the way home. Everyday. So I do it twice a day everyday.

One thing I am guilty of though, is on Crowchild before the flu-over to Glenmore East, I will sometimes go into the right hand lane and scoot all the way past all the traffic. It's an a-hole move, but at least I'm not doing it in the left lane and then slamming the brakes when no one lets me in!

I believe this is incorrect, in the US thats the rule, but in Canada I was under the impression that both the mergers and the through traffic had equal right of way. I've been googling for the last 5 minutes and everything I've come up with supports that position although i have yet to find a official source for Canada like I did for the US.

official link found

Both drivers have equal right of way in a merge. on page 5. So in theory if they won't let you in, make your own room and you're both 50% at fault for the damages, maybe that'll teach em

They were still out, but the effect on traffic was negligible at around 4:15, partly because of so many people blowing right through anyways.

Well once rush hour starts, I'm sure this will be a problem. I'll be passing through there at around 5:45-6:00...guess we'll see what happens.

The only problem with that free flow sign is in the case of eastbound Glenmore onto southbound Macleod.. Sure it's free flow, except your lane ends in 2 car lengths, and if no one leaves a space for you to get in (as they almost never do), you either have to turn or slam on your brakes.

Yes, yes it is. If you're going to do that at least pay the price and go up to 53rd and come back down to do it.

A few times I've seen people actually move to block people who do that, and I secretly cheer for them.

is this what you mean by a-hole move? because it looks correct. In rush hour traffic, people will do what the red car is doing because they think it is polite not to cut in way ahead.
