The wiggles are old school.....check this out http://www.myspace.com/yggmusic

Not saying it is the absolute best show out there but if I am going to sit through a kids show I like the idea of discovering new bands as I do it.....They teach a lot of core values on this show and the characters are wacky and out there but I think that is the appeal for the kids. I don't think the adults we watched growing up could hold the attention like these characters do. To learn you have to get their attention and keep it. Another reason I would point to for kids behavior these days, which I haven't really noticed as being worse or better then when I grew up, is the food they eat. They have way more sugar in their diets then we did. That may be the theory that you can undoubtedly prove!

Wow, you don't have kids? You need to worry about other things, IMO! My kid loved treehouse and still watches some shows. My little niece calls it four four..where she lives its channel 44. I just think there are so many other things to worry about, seriously. As far as kids programming Treehouse is the best we've got. My daughter was very guarded from t.v. If I didn't like it, then I just wouldn't let her watch it.

There's a lot of great stuff on Treehouse!! Little Bear, Babar, the Backyardigans, lot of great stuff.

Except Franklin. I wanna punch that whiny, sniveling little bitch in the face.

I don't know if Treehouse has it, but on Access they have this show called "Peep and the Big Wide World". It's Canadian, but it's just awesome. Easily my favourite, and my daughter's too!

http://www.tv.com/children/genre/3/topshows.html If you check this list out there were a lot of shows that we had to endure as kids that are on par with the worst of them today!

Ha. My kids love wiggle and learn. And Treehouse is awesome. No ads. No violence. No name calling. It's a better parent than I am.

You're definitely getting old and cranky. Though as someone else said there's a lot of research that goes into kids shows these days - or at least people that like to talk about it. Didn't the tipping point talk about Blue's clues a lot?

I think a lot of kids shows are really targeted at the kids - and you shouldn't be surprised if you don't get it. Anymore then a 2 year old is going to find what you like entertaining.

Well, to be honest it's not a huge worry. I'm a psychology student and I work with youth with various levels of mental health problems. It's more a topic of interest for me. More youth are diagnosed with various disorders than ever before and I am curious to investigate all the possible reasons for this. There are many. Not trying to say that television is the biggest or baddest, but it still belongs in the discussion I think.

I enjoy writing and ranting and reading the opinions of this boards' members. So add it all up and I thought I'd post and get some thoughts.

I admit that I was overly harsh towards that specific network but I still believe in my original post on a more general level. Just waiting for someone to post "My kids watch Treehouse and are out of control" to prove it!

I think a lot of what you are referring to is the "hosts" between the shows. They are bad. But from Diegoa and Dora my kids learned to count in spanish and several birds. They also recognized the red-eye tree frog and blue morpho butterfly when we were in Costa Rica. Also, Berenstein Bears, a very old series, features a very functional family with excellent story lines. Magic School Bus is also on treehouse as referenced above and I am blown away by the concepts they present and the ability of my 7y/o to retain and apply the concepts and the darndest times.

I am also not a fan of Max and Ruby, as mentioned above, as Ruby is a little bitch in my opinion but this one does not get much play in our house and we use it to demonstrate that Ruby is not playing very well.

In summary I would say that with careful selection the current crop of shows, which has many older shows, is actually pretty good.

All imho.

I cant believe nobody has raised any objections to their questionable late-night programming.

I'm not certain that a Quentin Tarantino Director's Cut of Wiggle & Learn entitled: "The Day the Wiggling Stopped" or Martin Scorsese's "Proper Rodent Disposal: Boston Edition" is appropriate children's programming.

Berenstein Bears isn't a depiction of a functional family. In fact, I don't let my kids watch that one. Any show that shows the dad as basically a fool that can't help but screw up is off limits in my house.

The big comfy couch. Veto

Franklin, I don't mind.

Timothy goes to School, a good one.

The Wiggles I think are aimed at small toddlers. They are what they are.

Man, I had every Berenstein Bears book as a kid. They used to come in the mail every month from somewhere. I totally apologize to Treehouse if they show Mr. and Mrs. Bear

Crazy Quilt is on right now. This lady seems normal, and I do love craft time.

More up my alley... haha... though this racoon has a damn annoying voice.

Edit: Before anyone thinks I'm nuts.... Just wanted to let you all know I have now changed the channel to Arrested Development.

I'm not sure which ones you have seen. Dad makes mistakes but he also demonstrates a fair amount of know how and ability. I would rather not see the "perfect" dad. And the family works through the issue in a respectful way. Perhaps a little 50s ish for some but I still think it shows a decent family chemistry.

I hope you are writing a paper or something. Otherwise, it is a little creepy to have an adult trolling on the the 'house.

Which is why my kid is not on the computer unless I am right beside her. But that is a whole other rant.

Ok....you guys got me wanting to watch Max & Ruby....I know my kids have watched it in the past but I never picked up on Rubys demeanor....I guess I will try to focus a little more on what they are actually saying instead of staring off in the other direction as they watch....

Yeah, my Max and Ruby are banned from our house too. I don't see how that show teaches my daughter anything good. It pretty much just shows her how to boss her little brother around.

I haven't watched much of this and my son doesn't seem to care for it, but I think the animation (claymation I guess?) is top notch.

Yo Gabba Gabba has got to be the worst for rotting kids brains.

That said, I think most of the content on Treehouse is fine, it's all in what you do with it. I like to get my daughter to explain the shows to me; the characters, why things happen they way they do, which characters she likes/dislikes and why, how things work in the world of the show, stuff like that. She's being analytical without realizing it, and having fun at the same time, so its all good.

Personally, I think kids are far, far, smarter than what TV shows pander to them. Blaming TV for what ails kids is shortsighted, IMHO.
