I was watching the ad for this, and it seems to me that the people shown using it were already reasonably fit.
What happens when Seamus, the 350 pound hard drinking Irish plumber climbs onto this bad boy half in the bag with a beer in his hand? Does it have a weight limit?

I think the weight limit is 330 lbs.

So it's the 21st. Guess I'll be spending the morning trying to trick my fellow workmates into driving me to the mall at lunch. I think I'll start with "my medication is at northland mall for some reason" and if that doesn't work perhaps I'll just pull a weapon.

I snuck out of my office a bit before 10am only to find that the HMV and Source stores downtown were already sold out. Apparently they were short-shipped. Typical Nintendo.

Left my office at about 9:45 bound for the Northland Best Buy... there were about 9 people lined up outside, me being the 10th at about 2 minutes to 10 (I stayed in my car until they opened the first outside door - at least 5 more lined up just after me). At 10 they let us in to yet again line up before the tills for what appeared to be 75 - 100 Wii fits. Then they opened the doors to the mall and a flood of about 50 or 60 people came in. As one Best Buy dude said "stand in the rain, get a head start". I neglected to mention that I hid in my car until the first door opened... oh well.
I got mine for $89.99, I'll plug it in later tonight when I get home. I'd expect by 11:00 at the latest that particular Best Buy will be sold out.
Actually, I just checked the Best Buy website out of curiosity and it already says all Calgary stores are sold out. When I checked this morning at 8:15 or so, all had stock.
It's going fast...

Well you aren't alone if that's any comfort. I wandered into EB Games about a week ago to preorder and they were already sold right out. So now it's a wait and see game again.

I wonder when consolewatch will add the wii fit to their site. I think there might be issues finding one of these!

I know the EB Games I work at has sold all on pre-orders. As has every EB Games in the city, so don't bother with that.

By a real stroke of luck I found one at Future Shop on Macleod at 11:30am... there were I think, 3 left. You could tell there used to be a lot of them. I didn't even care to ask about the remote/nunchuk case they were packaging with them. if its in the box, great... if not, I could really care less.

you are lucky thunderball..
I've tried the entire nw, almost, and couldn't find any
the closest was the eb at northland, where there was one left not for pre-order, but i was the 3rd one in line....I was there earlier, but couldn't see any so I went to walmart, and then went back to eb quickly after.... it turns out they had a box stored under the counter all along.. man.. I feel stupid.. haha I should have asked the cashier the first time I was there..

I wouldn't be surprised if the Walmart I went to had some hidden, forcing people to ask a cashier... but from my POV, I had an hour to look before I had to be back in the office, so I didn't have time for questions.
I was cursing myself for not sneaking out before 10, but at least that Future Shop had them... thank god for the location that people tend to ignore because its old.

I was lucky enough to get one from the HMV downtown. They had 9 (but were originally supposed to have 30). A few guys in the line behind me were pissed that they thought there were more than 9 (even though there was a sign on the door indicating there were only 9).

Huh?
This isn't a standard game release.
Pumping out the Balance Board peripheral isn't the same thing as pumping out millions of copies of Galaxy, Halo, Brawl, or GTA.
It's already been released in Europe and Japan and has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide. Most major game releases in North America are either released before the other markets or at the very least simultaneous or shortly after (Wii Fit's been out in Japan for 4 months and over a month in Europe). Nintendo still has to stock those markets as well.

I don't really care about their worldwide order fulfillment process. I'm just a frustrated consumer and I'm echoing the disappointment that I heard from retailers today - they were expecting a certain number of copies, but didn't receive them. I'll get over it.

I hear what you are saying JayP, but Nintendo has a limited window to resolve their distribution problems. Don't for a second think that Sony and Micorsoft are watching what is happening with the Wii and aren't developing their own motion control devices. Both systems currently have better graphics and sound than the Wii, and if they come out with similar control mechanisms, Ninentdo will need another gimmic to maintain their marketshare.

Wii is also much cheaper and is entrenched in people's minds similar to the iPod. iRivers and the like are superior to iPods in terms of features (at least they were when I bought mine), but they aren't taking down the iPod anytime soon.
I would be surprised if Microsoft or Sony released any major motion control peripheral this generation. They might release something half-assed, but there's no way it's going to have a major impact. Great games have to be built from the ground up with motion control in mind and not simply tacked on (as the heaps of Wii shovelware prove).
