The one time I caused (well - my buddy actually caused) a big fuss was when I was a lot younger down in Vegas, and three of us had this room where it just STUNK of cigarette smoke (none of us were smokers), the ceiling had a big blotch on it like someone had died in the suite above, we asked every day for more towels (we had 2, which didn't really work with three guys) and never got any until we just scammed some ourselves off the cleaning lady's cart, plus various other minor but annoying little problems, none of which they addressed when we there.

So when we left, he raised a ruckus and got half our money back from them, which was great, but then they actually sent their security guys to follow us all the way out of Vegas - for what purpose, I'm not sure, although unmarked graves in the desert did occur as a possibility.... but I guess the point is, although we had stayed there three times before that, it never even occurred to any of us to go back - why subject yourself twice to crap treatment? The only way I'd take a coupon or some other such lame "refund" is if it had some monetary value where I could foist it off on someone for cash, otherwise, cash in hand and see ya later.

yeah its crazy , i used to sell at a timeshare resort and have recently got promoted to concierge ........ i actually here some pretty funny complaining..... i just smile and try to make it right... If they are owners of our company i def help them , if they are exchangers from a different company i help them , If they are people that continuously complain and then keep exchanging into our resort.... I go ahead and tell them , obviously we cant satisfy you so if you continue to feel this way please choose to exchange into another resort!

A few weeks we were crusing in the Caribbean and for the first time we got a stateroom with a balcony. We got two, one for the missus and me and one for our children. They were adjoining and we had balconies side by side where we could pass from to the next without having to go into the hallway. We were so looking forward to the ocean views and having the door open for the ocean breeze.

Anyway, there was an electrical problem in the wall of the room the wife and I were in. There was a constant, very annoying buzzing coming from the wall most of the time that our balcony door was open. Our cabin steward tried his best to get it fixed, but the long and short is the balcony door that we paid a few hundred dollars for was useless to us most of the time. I've written a letter to Princess and emailed them, asking only for a free upgrade next time we cruise to a balcony so we can get the benefit of the balcony that we didn't this time. I'm not asking for money or anything else. Haven't heard a word from they yet and I've threatened to complain on cruisecritic.com if I don't at least hear something back from them, but so far nothing.

My complaint may seem minor to some, but trust me if you had to put up with this very annoying buzzing for 10 days you'd see my point.
Thats a reasonable complaint and I can imagine how annoying that would be, we had a AC unit in my last mexico trip that would rattle every 10-20 mins for a few mins, it would drive you crazy when you tried to goto sleep.

I think for Cruises we expect more quality and definitely have more reasons to complain when we don't get it. My biggest thing was always with Mexico and 3rd world countries where people complained about things like they were staying at a 5 star resort up in North America.

If you have a travel agent for that booking, get them to contact the rep for your cruiseline, that can speed things up a lot with complaint resolution; agents can be great help for that.
