I thought the episode was pretty average up until the last 15 minutes, but I was really looked during the last part. When she said "What is my necklace" I said "Amber" but I had totally forgotten her name, and had been just using House's nickname for her for so long that it slipped. Despite knowing the victem was a girl name Amber it finally clued in when she was sitting there.. . Great moment though when that vehicle came barreling into them, fantastic final to the episode.

Hack&Lube, despite being dramatic and depressed, is right about House being formulaic. It really is. But Hugh Laurie brings it every episode, and his play off his co-workers, especially Wilson has me watching week in and week out. Yes the show gets "Fox'd up" every now and then, but it's still usually entertaining and leave me laughing.

Previous to House he was changed to Stuart Little.

I had to stay away from this thread, since I wasn't able to watch it last night. I downloaded it this morning on my laptop and then watched it at work during lunch...

Oh. My. God.

House has been my favourite show since I saw the pilot 4 seasons ago, but last night's episode was insanely awesome. I loved the bit about the necklace, when he say says "Resin" and she keeps asking him... and then he clues in and he's like, "It can't be..."

I was sitting there going, "wtf is it made of?!" When he said "Amber"... oh man...

Absolutely the best episode ever of this show!!! Loved it.

Can't wait for Monday.

I have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, because I hadn't watched the show the first year. I hate watching the show with commercials now.

The relationship between House and Wilson is the best part of the show. Some of their conversations are priceless.

Geez, with Bones just around the corner on the Fox lot, why couldn't Stephen Fry have had a cameo on House a few times? We're only talking about Hugh Laurie's best friend and closest show business partner for 30 years.

There's a story about how, when they were casting the role of House, they went through everyone they could find and no one seemed to fit the bill... they wanted the "perfect American."

When Hugh Laurie came in to do his audition, he came in already "in character" and when he was done, the director commented on how perfect he was.

I would have loved to see their faces afterwards when he started talking to them in his normal British accent.

What makes you think I don't know about every single one of those?

Hugh Laurie auditioned for the role of House, the role he wanted, and the role he got. He isn't "chained" to it, by all accounts, he loves it. Get over yourself.

It's crazy.

I guess BBC America is something I should check out?....oh wait...I already have!!

Hack...are you saying that Laurie is doing himself a disservice by continuing to play Gregory House? I just don't understand what your beef is.

I've read some British papers that say he is a bit unhappy, especially with his family in the UK and the schedule so long for US dramas. Hugh Laurie refuses to move his family over because he's convinced the show will be cancelled the moment he does. Stephen Fry also says Hugh Laurie hates doing the voice and never watches any episode of House after filming because he thinks he is boring and can't stand seeing it.

I don't hate House, I just think that the show needs to properly use his talents. Some more piano playing, guitar play, some more comedy/fantasy scenes... instead of him yelling about his pain and lupus over and over with a mouthful of medical jargon is what I'd want. I want the show to make more of the character. We're going into Season 4 now and nothing has really changed on the show aside from a swap of his assistants, it's just so formuliac.

Hugh didn't walk in for an audition, nor did he start in character. He was in in Namibia while filming Flight of the Phoenix in the desert. He videotaped himself in the bathroom because he couldn't get proper light anywhere else. He also started with his British accent apologizing for the bathroom and how he looked (dischevelled since he was playing a guy marooned in the desert)...which turns out to be the House look....

He then got into the House character (which he thought was a sidekick character and that Wilson was the lead character since he was the "young-dashing" Doctor). He never expected to be auditioning for a lead role. He mailed the videotape to the U.S. where Bryan Singer leapt to his TV screen seeing the audition tape thinking that House was an American.

It's never lupus.

I suggest you stop watching. The show is clearly beneath you.

Where did you get this info? I'd like to read it. I would think that a guy reading a script for a show called House, MD...and reading for the part of Dr. Greg House....would be pretty sure that he was reading for the lead role. That's just me though, I may be an idiot...after all, I was born just miles below that magic 49th parallel!

Luckily for me, I prefaced my post with "There is a story..."

It's fairly common knowledge how distorted things get when passed along by word of mouth.

The details may be inaccurate, from one telling to the next, but the basic premise remains: the person doing the casting found his "perfect American" in a guy who turned out to be fiercely British.

Hugh Laurie hates, alot of things. He is a depressing guy, has been for a very long time, surprised you didn't mention that since you've followed his career so closely. I suggest you try to find a clip of the Amazing Randi's show, where he debunks physics and all that (I forget the name). Fry and Laurie were guests and a physic who was on the show tried to peg Laurie's personality as bubbly and excitable, Fry laughed it off, saying that his friend is borderline depressive and he is never happy etc. You've totally taken things Laurie has said and spun it like his moopy sadness is because of HouseMd and the Greg House character. Which couldn't be further from the truth.

Your spin and flat out lying to prove your point is a joke. Here is an except from Wikipedia about Laurie and his depression. Now, I know it's wikipedia, but the quotes are from Inside the Actors Studio, which I watched, and seen him on.

Quote:
Laurie has periodically struggled with severe clinical depression,[1] and continues to receive regular treatment from a psychotherapist. He stated in an interview that he first concluded he had a problem while driving in a charity demolition derby in 1996, and realised that driving around explosive crashes caused him to be neither excited nor frightened (he said that he felt, in fact, bored).[14][1] "Boredom," he commented in an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, "is not an appropriate response to exploding cars".
So here's a tip for you friend, next time you seen a quote from Laurie or Fry about Laurie being upset or sad about House, remember that this is -- unfortunately -- just the person Hugh Laurie is. A very sad, very depressed man.

Just to hammer this home, about Laurie's depression.

Quote:
lpeasure was something that was treated with great suspicion (in my family)..
..even to this day, I find pleasure a difficult thing, I don't know what to do with it
Quote:
I was a frustration to my mother.. I don't actually know why, there were big chunks of time where she didn't like me
Just a touch into the mindset of Hugh Laurie, and that his depression stems from his life and not.. Dr. Greg House.

Everything Hack&Lube says is true, but not surprisingly he is spinning it to suggest Hugh Laurie hates being Dr. House, which is not true.

IIRC on the first season DVD there is a round house table discussion with the cast, where Laurie says all of that. I don't believe "House" had a title yet so he assumed that the show was focused around the Wilson character. Television in general tends to focus around the nice guy trying to do good, and the House character would be the side kick in most shows.

He then went on to say -- and Hack leaves this out -- that Laurie thought the switch was brilliant and a real change from what is on TV and really thought it was great.

The video of his interview tape is on the Season 1 DVD and also on Youtube. He revealed he thought he was reading for a side-kick in one of his TV interviews, Leno or Letterman I think. Or maybe it was on Inside the Actor's Studio.

Mr. Mastadon, the reason I follow Hugh Laurie's career so much is that he is both a hero to me as an actor and musician and his problems are very...relatable for myself. I know he is unhappy with many aspects of House and pessimistic about his but he also loves making people laugh and I'd like to see more of that on the show. I'm not blaming the show. For some reason you think I hate the show. It's probably the only American TV show I tune into weekly. I just think it could be better for him and the audience for them to tweak the format a little more and use more of his talents.

There's so much life and comedy coming from him in his non-House appearances, like on Jay Leno two weeks ago. They need to put that improvisational charm and wit a bit more into the show somehow.

Default I missed House tonight! Help!

Well, my dad could not figure out how to set up the PVR despite my step-by-step instructions. I should have done it myself but I forgot, and now I've missed House tonight.

Help me out- does anyone here know when episodes are replayed or did you record tonight's episode and perhaps you could send it to me?

Thanks!
