Penticton, August long weekend, lots of people, but a good time. Go down the river channel, rent a raft(cheap), bring a cooler and you spend 2-3 hours floating down the river. Awesome time. Really fun.

Vancouver is nice. You can drive there in 12 hours. Stanley Park is gorgeous. Robson Street is a bustling place to walk around with lots of nice places to eat or have a drink. Granville Island. Kitsilano beach is great. I think Penticton would be great for a younger single guy. Is it Penticton or Kelowna that has Regatta? I hear its a great time, my sister used to go when we were teens. Ottawa would be deadsville for a young guy. It's for old people. Montreal is supposed to be awesome. But for cheap, I'd go to B.C. and drive there.

I don't think it takes 12 hours to drive to Vancouver from Richmond. Maybe if there's another transit strike going on but props to you for recommending the guy take a vacation where he lives!

Another stupid comment. Things like Canada Day, Ottawa Bluesfest and HOPE Volleyball Summerfest are not for old people. Heading to Ottawa sometime during the first two weeks of July would be an excellent idea and all three of those events would be highly recommended.

Panorama is great for short summer stays.

golf hiking, biking, tennis etc. A couple of places to eat on site. There's a couple of bars I think, but probably little else to do at night.

northern Idaho. Beautiful area and tons of fun stuff to do. great trip there last year.
