Another nice course is Northumberland Link in pugwash.. good value we usually do a boys trip there every other year and they are great about us having a good time on the course.. Last year one of the guys passed out cold on the first tee... after we peeeled him up off of the ground he took off down the fairway in the cart.. the starter turns to the rest of us and says "i probably shouldn't have let him drive the cart"

if you want to spend the big bucks on golf Fox Harbour is just down the road and is beautiful.

Digby Pines is another beautiful old course a couple of hours drive from Halifax.

May have missed it, but the Alexander Keith's Brewery Tour for the beer lover

Nope. At least not in my opinion though I've never been impressed with the Economy Shoe Shop.

Best Nachos are at a place called Redwood Grill. It's actually a hotel restaurant across from Home Depot Bayer's Lake but the food is all very very good. Never been disappointed in it nor have any business guests or other guests. Menu changes quite often and everything is fresh and homemade. Desserts are spectacular (especially the peanut brittle ice cream cake).

Sweet Basel is always a good choice for good food...a little pretentious at times but good. Also very good desserts (try the carmel cake if it's still on the menu).

Waterfront Warehouse is supposed to be good though I've never been despite working about a 60 second walk away.

Stay away from McKelvie's...a fish restaurant that cooks their fish worse than just about every non fish specialized restaurant. At least IMO...been there 4 or 5 times and never been impressed. Nor have the people I've gone with. Might be better now, i haven't gone for 2+ years.

Never been to the Redwood, though I tend to stay away from Bayer's Lake at all costs. Have to try it out I guess, though my cravings for nachos tend to arrive when I'm downtown having a few drinks.....

Waterfront Warehouse is very good, you should make that 60 second walk sometime!

A few other afternoon activities around the city:

The Commons: Grab a frisbee and some friends and enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Point Pleasant Park: Beautiful walking trails along the harbour and North West arm. View a few of the old army forts there. Not quite the same since Hurricane Juan blew down all our trees, but still a relaxing way to spend a few hours.

I think the Keith's Brewery tours were mentioned but I will definitely second that one. Very fun and cheap beer!

Historic Properties: Section of downtown with shopping and a few restaurants, including the already mentioned Split Crow which is a Halifax staple. Go for some cheap pub food and stay for the 3 beer for 5 bucks deal! Though I think that may only be on Thursdays.

Casino Nova Scotia: pretty self- explanatory.

Crystal Crescent Beach: Pretty warm water for an Atlantic beach and only a 30ish minute drive from downtown. Just make sure you don't stumble upon the nude beach next door.

Local bands: tons of shows every weekend. Let me know your musical tastes and I can give you a list of bands to check out as I am fairly familiar with the scene.

Dance Clubs: Try to stay away from the Dome or the Palace. Fun I guess but kinda skanky... think Cowboys but without the cowboys. Pacifico is a nicer place for that kind of thing. Reflections is a gay bar and if you want to really dance, that's where you go.

Harbour tours are fun. I haven't noticed any kind of stink around the harbour since the new treatment plants have started going in. That is a sad part of the city's history that thankfully we seem to be getting control of.

Some beautiful drives around the province as well. You can head west from Halifax and drive through the Annapolis Valley. Many nice spots up there including historic Grand Pre (an Acadian settlement during the 1600-1700s). There are also many vineyards you could tour, or spend a night at the Old Orchard Inn in next door in Wolfville. Or you could head South from Halifax, drive along the ocean and check out Lunenburgh, a small fishing town that will have you feeling like you're in the 1700s. Mahone Bay and Chester are on the way and also just spectacular places to spend a day exploring.

I guess I'm done for now. I think I love this city/province more then I give it credit for sometimes.

Man I miss N.S. I have not been there since we moved when I was 12 but I think about it all the time. I hope to go back this summer if everything pans out.
A few other things. If you are into bowling at all try it in the maritimes. It is not like here, it is called candlestick and there are ten tall skinny pins and you use a ball from 5 pin bowling and the best part is that they do not clean the pins in between balls so you have to play the "dead Wood"
Make sure you take at least half a day to just go to a good beach. The beaches there are awsome and to just lay there and relax is worth it, just watch out for jelly fish.
If you are in the Antigonish area take in the highland games. They are great and it is quite a party.

Also does anyone else find it funny that a board based out of Calgary about hockey has a thread about where to eat in Halifax, a place thats all the way accross the country and the fact that we have two pages on it already.

I sorta span the whole country. Haligonian living in Ottawa spending lots of time on a Calgary hockey board.

Good point about the bowling. I don't bowl here in Ontario... I miss my candlepin bowling. I was pretty damn good at it too....

Funny thing about this thread. It made me realize that when I'm go back home I don't take advantage of all the unique things in Halifax - I'll eat at Lonestar, go to a movie and shop at Zellers... stuff I could do in Ottawa. I should be going to My Father's Mustache, go bowling and go shopping at Historic Properties.... It's like going to France and eating at McDonalds.

Nova Scotian's unite! Let's get it to three pages!

That's why I love this board. The knowledge spans the whole country! I can remember reading threads on Montreal, Toronto, etc. as well.

Anyway, I came back because I realized no one has mentioned The Chickenburger yet as a place to eat. My first ever job when I was 15 was hauling chickens from the basement to the kitchen for the cooks to chop up. I smelled great by the end of my shift... you can imagine. Anyway, http://www.thechickenburger.com for directions... it's considered the oldest drive-in restaurant in Canada and trust me, it's delicious. Get a milkshake, you won't be disappointed.

Devil, I actually climbed Citadel Hill today with some friends and then went to eat at the Moustache today... totally inspired by this thread!

EDIT: oh yeah, I forgot. Having never bowled anywhere but here in Halifax I didn't realize we were so different. Are we alone with our ten skinny pins and small, no-holed balls? I haven't been bowling since I was probably 14 or something.
