Yesterday it was perfectly legal, but today it isn't.
Should he keep seeing her, or does he have to wait a year?

He should see if he can apply to have his relationship "grandfathered" so that he's no longer breaking the rules. I mean it probably violates some constitutional law somewhere to outlaw your sexual relationship by passing a new law.
I guess the bussiness of selling winter tires is pretty cut throat these days, needing to start signing prospect customers before they're old enough to drive!

Okay, I thought it was clear enought that the HulkRogan bit was a joke, so I'm gonna state it obviously here.
HulkRogan is not now, nor has he ever dated a 15 year old.
Seriously, not even when he was 15.

No dude, you ALWAYS round up.
Anyone who makes the distinction using half years, is proably to young to date for anyone, so you always round UP.
The best case for this is someone who is 21 years old.
By our system someone who is 21 (able to drink anywhere) can still date soneone who is 17 (unbale to drink anywhere).
By mine a 21 year old can only date an 18 year old, so there is still a little bit of overlap.
Another rule of thumb is that you are only allowed to date someone who is one life stage behind you.
These stages are as such.
Highschool
University
Working at your career
Middle age
Retirement
So someone who is in University can date someone who is still in high school, but someone who has graduated university cannot.

We're talking semantics here, but we generally agree. But, a 17 year old can be in University and in the same classes as that 21 year old. As well, a 19 year old can be in their career path, I don't think that disqualifies them from dating anyone in high school.
The drinking age argument only holds water if they live in a place where the age is 18. I don't think there's too many 21 year old guys in BC who would refuse a hot 18 year old because she can't go to the bar legally.
I round down because I don't think anyone with a straight face can say a 17 year old has no business with a 15 year old, or that its okay for a 22 year old to date an 18 year old (the BC equivalent) but that 17 and 21 is "wrong". Ages don't round up. 17 and 363 days is still a no go at the liquor store, despite being a day or so from 18.

Huh? Ma? Whaaaaa??????
Sorry, I don't think I get this part.
Are you claiming the 17 yr old with the 15 yr old is acceptable, and that you don't think anyone could really call that wrong?
Cause man, having been the 17 yr old with a 15 yr old once upon a time, its nothing but bull. Parents, teachers, everyone. Complete and total bull. Society does not think thats acceptable. Funny thing is that nobody actually out and said it except her idiot psycho car-jock father.
I for one, could not be happier about this law change. Too bad we can't write a law to silence stupid people.
EDIT: That last line was not a shot at the quoted poster.

I've been the 17 yr old with the 15 yr old too... and I heard some stupid remarks, but no one with a straight face could tell me why it was wrong. Best I got was, well, uhh... she's in Grade 10.
Both are in high school, both are underage, neither know their ass from a hole in the ground, neither can vote, or legally drink (though both likely do). Nearest I could surmise is that at 17 I could drive and she couldn't. Its a two year difference.
The law also agrees with us. Even under the new provisions, 17 can date (and do other things with) 15. Society often gets their head stuck up their ass... I mean, I'm two and a half years older than my girlfriend, and I fail to see why when I started dating her I was "bordering on cradle robbing" (she was 18, I was 20 and turned 21 within the first two months), but now that she's 21, its "perfect." Had we started dating when she was 16 and I was 18 on 19, I would have been a "cradle robbing perv." There should be a law against stupid people, you're right.

Hey man,
You're the one who brought up the "Half your age + 7 rule". You can't go bashing it now.
These arbitrary made up rules are in place for a reason, you can't just go changing them to suit your needs.

I'm going to say that these arguements can only be considered on a case by case basis. I make such a comment because I had a reputation for attending high school graduations well into my University years !

I'm not bashing it. I'm saying it makes sense, but if you land on a decimal, you don't round up because ages don't work that way. 17 1/2 is not 18. The law doesn't round up and neither do I. In practice, the decimal meant they should be an older 16 or 17 or whatever.
But you're right, its funny how people lean on the arbitrary made up rules. Plus, Age / 2 +7 is not so much a rule, its more of a guideline. Cowboy is right, it is really a case by case thing.

^^^ That's right. However, since it is Canada it's still alright for you to be hanging by the boys washroom.

If there was any justice in this stupid country these arbitrary made-up rules would be actually in the books. Not only would it be acceptable for a 23-year old woman date a 35 year-old man, it would actually be illegal for her to date anyone younger than that.

Just a little bit of useless knowledge here, this rule of thumb thingy comes from way back when there was a law stating you couldn't beat your wife with a stick no wider than your thumb.

As a 35 year-old man, I whole-heartedly agree with that. Can we get that passed into law?
