How about John Glenn, he was the first non native man in Calgary. Built the first irrigation ditch in all of Alberta using this to farm all kind of crops. He was here two years before the the RCMP. He built the chimneys in Fort Calgary was a farmer and stone mason. Years ago there was a billboard in Midnapore stating home of John Glenn as his farm was in the fish creek area.

Plus he was my great, great, great grandfather.

Is it a requirement that the person was born in Alberta? Because there are a few notables on that list who weren't. Sam Steele, Colonel James McLeod, John Ware... I think there are others.

I really like the Chief Crowfoot idea.

Haha... Melissa O'neil. Apparently winning a kareokee contest makes you a great Albertan. I'm sure she is very nice, but she's among the 90% of people who don't deserve to be on that list.

Nellie McClung. Ian Tyson is another big one as well (Four Strong Winds). I would even make a case for Preston Manning in that it was his use of populism that brought Albertan interests to the main floor of Parliament (despite me absolutely loathing all that is "Reform").
