Not to mention that sometimes one train is followed by another heading in the other direction with about 30 seconds of time to get through the crossing before it is closed down again!

So Calgary Puck controls the trains....this information will prove very useful.

I sat waiting for an 10 minute train at Sheppard once. It was literally 10 minutes, I timed it. I didn't think they were allowed to be that long but this was 10 minute long train at 6:40am or so on a weekday. Did I mention it was 10 minutes long?

Ahhhh thanks for the heads up on 24th. In the summer months the traffic doesn't seem as bad, but it'll be a nice option if Barlow and Deerfoot are ever ridiculous.

Hopefully they finally extend 18th street from Riverbend all the way to Douglas glen like they've been promising for the last 5 years. That would probably be the best alternate route for me (connecting to Glenmore).

I think that is the reason 24th is officially closed right now. Driving by it looked like they were getting ready to make it a regular 4 lane road; complete with streetlights too!

Well that's good news, but I'm betting they don't open it until they're done the expansion of Glenmore just east of Deerfoot.

10 minutes? You got off lucky. I've been stuck for over half an hour from time to time.

Agreed on 37th & Glenmore in general. You can tell that the land required for a cloverleaf type interchange is roughed out for this intersection. Will the ring road go through here???

Another quirk is that these lights seem to go down every thunderstorm.

Yes the ring road is supposedly planned to go south on 37th and eventually hook up with 22X. Of course the Indians (screw the PC crowd) dragged their feet and dragged their feet and just wanted their precious casino completed... now that the casino is completed the traffic has gotten even worse and they've finally realized "hey maybe a ring road is a good idea for more traffic for our casino".

The problem is by the time the ring road construction is completed it won't be needed anymore because we'll all be driving flying cars.

McKnight, either direction both rush hours between 19th St NE and John Laurie. Just plain bad.

And since I haven't heard anything about a McKnight widening in a number of years, I assume that idea has been shelved, although the closing of Barlow to the airport will bring it to a head.

How is Macleod Trail Northbound down by Shawnessy in the morning? My wife wants to move down there and I am concerned about sitting in traffic for hours.

Part of my morning commute takes me from 22X to Canyon Meadows Drive northbound at about 6:40 in the morning. Smooth sailing at that point; sometimes a 2 light wait at 162 ave.

However it could get worse as you start getting into lights north of Anderson.

SW Calgary to NW Calgary (Sarcee Trail) = no traffic

Oh come on now, the ring road has only been 68 years in the making so far.....

That being said they are now hoping to have it done by 2015

For a while the city was talking about not allowing access to the casino because there was no movement on the ring road deal....so much for sticking to their guns.
