wow, a 10 from ign? I don't usually allow reviews to get me too excited but that's just incredible.

If I want to buy this game, is it imperative that I either pre-order it or hit up one of these midnight sales in order to avoid sold-out situations? Ideally I could just walk by HMV on Tuesday and grab one, but will enough stock be shipped? Is it going to be a phenomenon in popularity?

It will be a phenomenon in popularity, but keep in mind it's been expected to be a phenomenon for quite some time. I imagine this game will ship in incredibly high numbers. It will also depend on what console you're buying for. I imagine 360 will be harder to find than the ps3 version.

Overall, I think you should be fine.

IGN aren't the only ones...the game is getting massive praise accross the board. Some claim that its the best game ever made. People seem genuinely astonished by the game, not just the usual marketing type reviews. Check it out:

Damn, only on Xbox 360 now, not for my old original Xbox. Guess I gotta save up and get a new console, as this is pretty much the only series I really have to play. COD is a nice series as well, put GTA is still my favourite, and this new game sounds unreal.

Reading a bit on it, there are a few subtle changes that sound pretty good. Among others.............

- Pedestrians are more intelligent. They'll phone for help if they are on a cell phone, and be more involved overall.
- Can't just open a car door and steal it. Now you have to sneak up, break the window and hotwire it.
- No loading sequence during the game at all..........just keeps flowing.
- If you get drunk your character will stumble and the view might get blurry.
- Cars have GPS devices, some voice-activated.

For people that own both 360 and PS3, what is your system of choice for this game? I have a pre-order for the PS3 version but I'm torn actually. The pop in is slightly less on the PS3 according to reviews but achievements, if that's your bag, are only on the 360. Any opinions?

I've heard nothing about eb. I do know that all future shops are opening at 12:01, with the northland location having a "party" of sorts.

The EB at westbrook mall thought they were gonna have a midnight launch, but they couldnt get enough staff to work it. So instead they're opening early at 8am on Tuesday.

Based on the IGN review, get whatever your GTA IV-playing friends will have for multi-player.

i would personally get it for the 360 because of the 2 exclusive episodes the xbox is getting (i think they paid rockstar $50 million for them).

The other thing to consider is what your friends have, since the online stuff looks amazing this time around. Having you and 15 friends running around the city causing havok...AWESOME!

Here is the gametrailers review (i personally like their reviews over ign and the other sites). All that footage is from the 360 and doesn't look bad at all (the draw distance is crazy, which makes me think the pop-in isn't really that much/bad but also makes me think the ps3 version must be crazy).

anyone know, Can you use any usb gamepad on an xbox 360? the xbox gamepads are too big for me.

I don't think you can just use any usb controllers and plug it in, due to microsoft restrictions, but you can buy 3rd party controllers, like the madkats microcon

another choice, but more expensive, is a controller adaptor. I think you can use any usb, ps2/3 ...ect
