Even blurry, it should have attracted attention. Then again, if he was laying on the floor of the elevator and nobody noticed, maybe not. Poor bugger. I think he got what he deserved for getting litigious though.
|
Yeah that was the one thing I thought of that I didn't see him try.
I think it's amazing no one noticed him sleeping on the floor for so long.
There's another thing to try; take off your pants. If the security guy sees you with no pants then maybe that might be noticed

I'm not a litigious guy but an ordeal like that would have made me into one. An hour? Fine. 3 hours? OK. 8 hours? I'm pretty pissed off. 41 hours? That's enough to make anyone wonder whether NYC has been attacked again. And whether you are alive in your own coffin. That's gotta seriously mess with someone's head.
And to find out afterward that 8 different building supers came and went without even glancing at the monitors would be infuriating.

I have to agree. I'm not a litigious person by nature, actually the farthest thing from.
But after spending 41 hours in an elevator and then finding out that several people were negligent which resulted in leaving me there longer I would be Stage 10, Grade A furious.

My cell phone did not work in our elevator (F you Telus). One of the accountants was able to get a signal.

Also, having the alarm bell ring for that long of a time is pretty much a form of torture.

Along with being stuck, alone, in a windowless box with no food, no water and no facilities that is precariously suspended in mid-air.
Turn off the lights and you're in hell.

How come the lights in his elevator stay on the whole time?
Look at the other 3 elevator feeds, the lights go on and off at intervals, but never his, his lights stay on the whole time.

Let his mind wander about some chick he met at the Y ?
I am amazed that the elevator alarms aren't made audible or visible from the lobby or the monitors. To me that is the biggest negligence. IMO there were definitely grounds for litigation, but purposely making your life worse to try and increase the settlement is borderline criminal.

Gosh, sounds exactly like our situation. Drunk after a birthday party out on the town, about 10 of us got on the elevator and started jumping up and down for no reason...then the elevator stopped. One guy had a heart condition and he was panicking like no other along with his fiance, while the rest of us had a good 2 hours stuck in there laughing. After awhile it got annoying when they had to tell them to put their heads between their knees to avoid passing out with the heat and the panic was too much. I can't imagine what I'd do if I was by myself for that long in an elevator though.

That is an incredible feat in itself.
To change the topic a little, how cool would this story be if a hot chick was also stuck in there with him? How would you pass 41 hours?

Man, keep the lights on and you're in hell.
My vision of hell has always been being caught in a weird loop where nothing ever changes. Not groundhog day style, more immediate; like suddenly traffic stops at a red light and never, ever gets moving again.
Did you just die?
ooooo-eeee-oooo-eeee
Great article though. It takes some skill to make elevators (and our psychology toward them) fascinating.

She'd spend 41 hours swearing about being stuck in the elevator with the fat guy from the mail room, then when the doors open her neckless boyfriend Mongo beats the crap our of you for looking at his girl.
Then he warns you to stay out of Riverdale.

It is interesting being able to see who read the article, based on their comments.
