I think in London, they introduced hawks into Trafalgar Square to get rid of the pigeons.
Go buy yourself a hawk!

Good idea, I forgot the balcony was considered common property.

Spike will work. We had a problem with pigeons nesting under our balcony and used spikes to discourage them from nesting up there. You have to put them really close together though, or they'll just use the nails as support for their nest.
I'd check for babies though, we always waited for the eggs to hatch and the babies to fly away before going all Wiley Coyote on the nesting area.

Seriously, toy snakes. 99cents at toysrus and just put two out and the birds will be freaked. Works at my sister in law's apartment.

The bird is nesting on your balcony because of the cover it receives from the BBQ. Lose the BBQ and buy a Hibachi.

I got a hold of exterminator. They are coming to remove the nest and the babies.
Pigeons are considered pests under City of Calgary bylaw and as such arent protected.
They will also advise as to a solution as per discouraging future pigeons. I am a white male who is not a vegetaian, getting rid of the very expensive Weber BBQ I bought is not an option. I am thinking the best option is an opaque netting, although will be difficult to attach to concrete.

How much is that costing you? Because a can of WD-40 and a lighter may be cheaper.

The rubber snakes might work, but then you have that rubber snake problem to deal with. It might force you to get a rubber hawk. Hey there's your solution a rubber hawk will get rid of both your pigeon and the rubber snakes, I should get into exterminating. Keep on Queing.
