I would agree with the above post. I think there looks to be about 2 people on each team who probably could be chefs and the rest are just there to make it a T.V. program for the first 8 weeks.
Last night was a bit less eventful. It is amazing how much food went to waste that first night though....Homeless shelters everywhere are screaming murder I bet.
I wonder how any of these people can have a palet of any type when they're all chain smokers. If smoking wrecks your sense of smell....wouldn't it affect your ability to taste things too?

will he actually be there, or is it just a franchise with his name on it?
...or is it ran by one of the show's winners?

Its in his NY restaurant, The London. I doubt he will be there as he has several restaurants around the world, so I'm not holding my breath by any means. But the donkey better put on a good show, he's always yapping on about making sure anything with his name on it matches his quality standards. Unfortunately there's no Beef Wellington on this menu.

Going to the London in NY? I was at his Boxwood Cafe in Knightsbridge in London, and have to admit - I wasn't completely blown away, but I attribute that to a somewhat mundane menu choice, a risotto. While cooked impeccably, it didn't wasn't a memorable dish.
Service was excellent though.

Yep, that's the one. To be honest, I've heard very similar opinions to your experience, so we'll see what happens.

My sis went to the London in NY. Came back saying it was an awesome experience. However, I don't think she knows her food.

It was ok. Seemed like they started keeping contestants only if they made good tv.
She sees what I did there

"YOU STUPID COW!" I really can't stand Ramsay or this show. He's obnoxious and the whole show is just cooks running around going, "yes chef" and treating him like a god. I want to go on the show to give him a big F U and quit the show. Think that would make good TV? Probably not but I really can't stand the way he talks and treats people even if he hams it up for television.

Yep yep. The British Kitchen Nightmares are where it's at.
Edit: Doh. Curse you, evil bumped thread!
As for the new topic, it would be insanely awesome to go to one of his restaurants. I'm jealous, fo sho!

Well I went, and it was pretty much what I had been expecting based on other people's feedback. The food was impeccably prepared, I didn't find one thing off.....yet, it wasn't one of those transcendent eating experiences that you remember for life. A very very solid meal though, and in any other restaurant would be considered a good one. I'm just pretty sure in a couple of days I won't even remember what I had.
I'd recommend it, but I think there might be better places in the city to spend that kind of coin. The only reason I went was that it was restaurant week, so it was basically half price...and still dropped $75 per person for 3 courses.

I like The F Word even more, though they're both much better than Hell's Kitchen.

I went to cooking school when I was 21. I love cooking, and have always thought it would be awesome to be a Chef. Unfortunately I discovered that, before I could ever become a Chef who got to create his own dishes and menus, I would have to first spend 15-20 years plopping the same piece of meat on the same plates with the same number of fries for $10/hr.
I lasted two years before quitting school and getting into computers. I still love to cook though!
