When I used to play in town there was a band called "the Cape May"...not sure if they still play..but they had some really good stuff.

When I clicked this thread I was like 'WDF, is this LOLCAL Band some type of LOLCAT rip off?'

I am dissapointed with both my comprehension skills and the end scenario.

Im not sure if they are local, but The Cripple Creek Faeries are very good and play calgary a bunch - Rock

And I know these guys are out of Vancouver but also really good - Whitey Houston - Similar to the white stripes, a drummer and guitarist, plus a hot chick with maracas.

The Ostrich is a solid rock band as well

The Brenda Vaqueros are a interesting band as well, sort of a rock/country/somethingish band. Very good at what they do.
The Cripple Creek Faeries are from Calgary.
Whitey Houston is from Edmonton..although he may live in Vancouver now.
The A Team - > been following them since i went to high school with MC Sparacino.

They're based out of Vancouver now. Interestingly enough, their current drummer was the drummer for another great local band, The Fake Cops. Somebody asked out the Cape May, and yes, they're still around. They actually played at Folk Fest last year.

LOL...he's actually a buddy of mine. I grew up with him and never really thought of him as a particularily talented musician, especially compared to some of the guys he used to be in a band with, but he was always the most dedicated and charismatic out of all them and it looks like it's really starting to pay off for him.

That's weird, I had heard they had moved to Vancouver. LOL, I always get the drummer and bass player mixed up no matter how many times I get corrected.

I noticed Chad Van Gaalen on troutman's list, another one I enjoy immensely.

No mention of Flu / Out of Your Mouth / Neurosonic?

I've always been a fan of Jason Darr, he can write some great material. Just needs to hook up with a co-writer or a great producer to filter out the filler and point him in the right direction.

The thing is, compared to Winnipeg which is almost half the size of Calgary, we barely have any national acts to speak of. That is, acts with a major record deal who tour North America and the World.
