Same way they know that 95% (or whatever %) of NHLers use steroids?

There is currently no blood test; the way it's determined is either via visual inspection, or subjecting pap smear samples for HPV DNA testing. Much of these studies quoted utilized the (routine yearly) paps of random women, and tested those samples directly for HPV.
Presumably those "random" women who get yearly paps and who were willing to consent to the research, are representative of all women.

who said anything about a blood test? I just said that there IS a test; and yes, they can draw blood and detect antibodies to HPV; just wouldn't tell if it is an old or current infection

Hmmm, I'm not familiar with anything like this in practice. I'm pretty sure doctors can't order this, or am I mistaken? The obs and gyn society cervical screening guidelines make no mention of this, so perhaps they are mistaken too....and it wouldnt matter if it's an old or current infection, from a cervical cancer risk standpoint.
and photon, look up "condyloma lata" if you really want pics..*barf*

25% of teenaged girls have an STD? What else can I say but, "sorry"?

I haven`t even been with one American girl let alone 4, I should have nothing to worry about since I've kept it all Canadian.

I was with a Canadian once. She was from Ontario. She called me two months later and told me I might want to get checked for herpes, since she just found out she had them.
Footnote - I do not have herpes.

I bet this number is higher here in Corpus Christi considering we used to have the highest teenage birth rate in the country for a while. I have had nothing to do with that number I swear.

We have a 1 in 4 STD ratio up here too, but luckily through a quirk of demographics, they all live in Ontario. Bad luck for you!

It's kind of funny, this whole STD thing, until it happens to you.
Nothing wrong with a HPV PSA to get the word out.
My Wife, 30 years old at the time, is told congratulations a good news bad news scenario here. The good news is you're pregnant, the bads news is you have cervical cancer and there is nothing we can do because you're pregnant!
That made for a fun worry free pregnancy. 3 months after our second child was born she had the surgery. All's fixed up, no worries. 1 year check up and she is told the cancer is back but now but it has spread. It is in the uterus and ovaries now and there is a good chance it has metastasized else where. She's 31 now and forced to under go menopause and a full hysterectomy. Let me tell you how much fun it was having a 10 month old and a 3 year old, running my own business as the only employee and sole source of income and visiting the hospital all day. Good times.
This was all a result of my wife contracting HPV from her boyfriend when she was 19.
It's been 3 years now and all appears well, knock on wood, fingers crossed. But this is not a unique story I'm sure. My wife had very few partners before she met me and led a very average to clean Canadian lifestyle. If she caught HPV just about anyone can. I say get the dang HPV vaccine into the hands of Canadian youth, why not!
