Maybe, but he was undone by his shifty banking shenanigans, so to me that says he was covering up where he spent his money. The best way to pay for this kind of thing would be with straight-up cash but if you don't want your wife to know, you can't just take that kind of loot out of the joint account.
Bla bla bla. Who knows. You may be right. Maybe she did know but it's still embarrassing as hell for her. Maybe even more embarrassing than not knowing.
"Yeah, my husband bangs hookers. I don't mind" is worse than "my husband sneaks around and bangs hookers".

If the tables were turned and the governor was a woman and she was paying young men for sex, what would you think of her husband if he stood by and "supported" her? I'd think he's the biggest chump going.
