As everyone's said, it'll keep the freeloaders out but it would still be possible to steal some information.... but do you really think you're important enough that someone with the knowhow and intent is going to bother?

That's a fair comment. I certainly didn't mean to imply that one shouldn't bother with securing a wireless network.

I guess all I was wondering aloud is whether any of this security would really stop someone determined to get your info. But I suppose that's like not locking your car since anyone determined enough to steal it could steal it anyway. Any deterrent is helpful.

Well, it is kind of like would you rather mug Joe Blow, or rob an armoured car. The armoured car will have a lot more money, but when Joe Blows are wandering around with their wallets showing, it is a heck of a lot easier to pick a bunch of pockets.

Once the security is set up, you don't even need to think about it anymore. Just do it.

I'm having some problems with the wireless in my house. I have everything running, and I had the internet up and running yesterday just fine. Last night and today however, my laptop shows that there is a strong connection, but whenever I open the browser it comes up with a Server Not Found page. Any ideas?

It's a D Link router and wireless card if that helps.

I finally set up the router. Thanks for all your help, people.
