I got mine coming this week from amazon.ca. I didn't feel like getting in lines or anything, since I'm going to be fairly busy this week, and am still weary from the great Guitar Hero 3 quest....

However, sounds like I was wise to buy 2 gamecube controllers last week.

I got mine at the HMV in westhills for $49.99 and there was no line and tons of copies. Just in case anyone is having trouble finding it.

I've been playing this like crazy since I got it yeasterday morning. I don't think I'm very good yet but it is loads of fun, especially in multiplayer.

I'm currently using Meta Knight and Pit with the classic controller. Who are you guys using and what controls do you prefer?

so I don't have gamecube controllers. Is using the wiimote really as bad as some make it out to be?

I have both and haven't even tried the gamecube controllers yet. My boys had no problems with the Wiimotes. They are both signed up for the EB tournament. Of course perhaps the reason they have no problem is they spend way too much time on these games and can seemingly adapt at will to any controllers, any system etc.

They have been playing pretty well non-stop to practice for the tourney.

if your a casual player, i don't think it'll be that big of a deal, i'm guessing the control is just easier on the gc controller for the crazy make money playing games crowd. Also, their is familiarity with the old control setup, which will add to easiness.

Apparently this is the first game to be released on a double density disk. It's causing some disc read errors for people who have dirty Wii disc drives.

You can send your Wii into Nintendo for a cleaning.

hehe, people with dirty Wii's.

Apparently, they just send you a new wii (circa launch time). There's all sorts of chatter on the internets that something else is up. Why can't you just clean the lens yourself with available products?

Maybe they see this as a way for them to get some of the launch Wii's back, since word on the street is the first gen Wiis are a lot easier to mod than the second gen ones. Not that I know of course.

if you guys need everything unlocked fast (ie. ppl coming over soon, having a smash party) follow this guide to get all characters and stages. Takes about 2 hours

Wiimote puts you at a SERIOUS disadvantage to anyone with a Gamecube controller.

Jumping is difficult, and throwing items and blocking is damn near impossible with the Wiimote. Really, play with a GC controller if you aren't already, it's night and day.

Of course, if you're just in it to mash buttons you should be okay. But to anyone wanting to get into a little bit of strategy, GC controller is a must.

His guide is for the Japanese version.

North American version has some different unlocking criteria. Some are the same, some are different.

I went out and bought a GC controller specifically for this game. I'm liking Lucas and Ike so far, simply because of their sheer power heh.

Marth and Link for me. I love Link's new bombs. They feel a lot stronger than in Melee and in a 4 player FFA I love tossing them in there and adding to the chaos.

And I did buy 2 GC controllers last week. There is no way you could possibly play this game with a wiimote.

for the record, you get owned no matter what you do.

which parts, out of curiousity? I got as far as unlocking R.O.B. before I got bored. The only thing I noticed different is the SMB2 demo. Regardless, using that method (the 1 second matches) is the fastest way to get the characters.

It is the quickest way but some are different. It doesn't take that much to unlock Sonic, Captain Falcon is done in different ways, etc. I don't know for sure all of them because I don't have all the characters.

Regardless, yeah, doing 1-second matches is the quickest way, but what fun is that?
