Because it is a tax cut for children? I am certain you are not so naive enough to think that the overwhelming majority of RESPs are opened up by parents/guardians for their kids... unless, of course, it gives you an opportunity to take an unfounded cheap shot at the Conservatives.
Now, for those who don't have kids, they get to put away up to $2200 per year for 22 years. Whoopdie-freaking-do. So when I'm 50, I'll have $50 grand (plus interest) for an education. Or maybe I'll just put that into my RRSP instead, where it will benefit me a hell of a lot more.
Of course, once again, those that want to ramp up their contributions so that they can improve their own educations faster will be, of course, the rich. Ditto families saving for their kids. The greatest benefits will to go kids from wealthy families. As is true with nearly every tax cut, the rich is who stands to benefit the most, and this cut is no different, so lets cut the hypocricy when arguing that Conservative tax cuts only benefit the rich as well.
