Good thinking!!!

Had a cougar come off a cliff behind us last year and a bear walking behind us the year before.

"Travels To The Edge With Art Wolfe" is in Hi-Def on PBS most days of the week and something everyone would find interesting . . . . excellent show with some emphasis on photography. Hi def is incredible for travel oriented shows.

But no substitute, as stated, for getting out and walking to infinity in person, regardless of season . . .

Cow, can you tell me/us your situation again.

As a transplanted Calgarian, I always love seeing your shots - but they really pull at the heartstrings and even make me wonder how I can figure out my situation so that I can do the same thing sometime (comfortably)

My "situation" is that I have two dogs, two feet and an inclination to go for a walk periodically.

My "situation" is therefore common enough that I am like any other stiff, at least any stiff living in the Calgary area where some late Fall larch viewing at Chester Lake, as below, is free to anyone.

If you live in Toronto bub, I can't help you!!!

Thanks for the heads up. You're saying if I go to the Rocky Mountains everything happens faster so it appears to be in time lapse? Sweet!
Now, what if I grew up around mountains so they don't get me off like they do for everybody else?

How well-behaved are your dogs in such situations? I'd imagine that having dogs around can either help you out(Ie make noise to scare off black bears) or make things worse depending on the animal stalking you.

I have to admit that my experience with wild animals is limited to black bears as opposed to grizzley bears and cougars (Except when bar hopping!) so I really wouldn't know.

They didn't see a thing and I didn't tell them. No stalking involved. Everyone just walking along, doing their thing. All done with in less than a minute.

Riding a bike in the mountains, I think, is kinda spooky. You've got getaway speed but you also sneak up on things at a very fast clip.

I've lived around the mountains for my whole life, 22 years, and I still love to spend as much time in them as possible. Time lapse is great, but so is talking a hike in the Rockies and listening to the birds sing. It's all about perspective, dude.

Nature is indeed amazing.

Now excuse me, I'm busy killing it.

I like nature. Quite a bit of it tastes good, particularly with HP sauce.

I know a guy, a hardcore cyclist (of the type who would ride from Banff to Canmore every night of the week and then for the weekend just decide he'd bike to Vancouver) who was cycling between Banff and Canmore one day, came over a small hill at high speed and t-boned a bear in the middle of the path (I seem to recall him saying it was a grizzly but might have been a blackie). The guy hastily got up and lifted the bike over his head and slowly backed away, but the bear just kind of gave him a confused look and then walked off into the forest.

Indeed it is, and the perspective of the video that was the subject of the thread (and my initial post) was time lapse. Hence, living close to the mountains was irrelevant to my post.

What are some people's own 'Planet Earth' shots? Like, ones that capture the moment from anywhere around the world?

Here's a couple I recently snapped in New Zealand:
