A neoconservative Evanescence fan. I guess you can add movies to the list of topics we don't agree on.

Sorry to dissapoint, but I'm not neocon, however I would take them over Democrats/moderates any day of the week.

LOL How did Norbit get a nomination? Haven't seen most of the Oscar nominated movies except Michael Clayton which I enjoyed.

Not to mention it had no end to speak of (unless you think the "evil always wins" was the ending).

For overrated Coen brothers, apparently it is more important to pretend their movie has a meaning rather than actually make sure it has a meaning. Imbecile mumbling of sheriff consitutes "a struggle of an old man with new times he cannot cope with anymore"?

One of the most overrated movie of the last decade.

Not surprised Hollywood and the critis love it though.
Have you read the book? I'm about half through it, and the movie tends to mirror the book more than any other book to movie combo that I've read/seen.

Woah, did Michael Moore run over your dog or something? There's no need for an anti-Moore tirade, we have plenty of threads on that already.

I didn't say I thought it was the best documentary, in fact, I didn't really like it either. But the Academy has a history of giving Best Documentary to Michael Moore, so I figured they'd do it again.

Actually I think we must do more to counter Moore's mindless drivel.

OK fair enough, I thought you endorsed this "documentary."

No I haven't. Judging by what you are saying (that the movie mirrors the book) I doubt I will ever read it.

Just out of curiosity, what would have been your pick for the best movie of last year (doesn't have to be Oscar-nominated)?

To be quite honest, it is very hard to say, because it feels like the Hollywood is getting gradualy worse. I have been very disapointed with movies: Before devil knows you're dead, Eastern promises (silly cliche after silly cliche), Rescue Dawn (I couldn't believe how bad it was), Die Hard 4, Gone baby gone, Babel (one of the very few horrible movies I just couldn't finish watching), Fracture, Sunshine (one of the worst scifi movies I have ever seen with the worst ending in a scifi movie I have ever seen), The Kingdom, We own the night, 30 days of night (ugh). All these movies pretty much sucked IMO.

I loved Ratatoille, and I liked American Gangster, Bourne ultimatum (cheesy but entertaining), Zodiac, 1408. And that's pretty much it.

I have not seen There will be blood yet, so I am going with American gangster.

There will be blood was nothing special at all. I'm baffled how it was even nominated for best picture. It's pretty much just 3 hours of artsy cinematography and a guy being a dick.

That's the blueprint for winning the Oscars.

I agree, we wouldn't want movies that are just a bit different. I mean, we there should be some sort of template and then every single movie made can be exactly the same.

We really must have seen different movies because I didn't find There Will Be Blood artsy at all. I thought it was one of the best performances by an actor that I've seen and I was pretty entertained.

Anyone get a kick out of Stewart playing Wii at the Oscars?

That and Once winning the Oscar for best song were the highlights of the night for me

I was going to counter with "I don't care about templates, I just want to be entertained in some form" but apparently our view of "entertainment" differs. I found the story of the movie totally weak. I mean, they could make a movie about my life and some actor could completely nail the character of me, I doubt it would be all that entertaining, and that's how I found this movie.

Wow. I disagree entirely. Absolutely loved it. Every scene was so thought provoking and subversive. Overall, I left the movie in a complete daze when I came to I felt a deep sense of tragedy. It disturbed to the extent that thinking about the movie is unsettling to this day.

I agree, it's tough waking up and realizing you just spent $10 on a bad 3 hour nap.

I think by that statement alone, I think you just defined yourself as a neo- conservative. Gotta hate those moderate people.
