Ah yes, Rapture '86..
Being a young member of an evangelical church at the time (I would have been what, 13?), I remember I even drew a logo for it! Fortunately my parents didn't sell everything they owned like some folks.
The pastor of the church was a really neat guy too, I looked up to him a lot.
He died of cancer a few years ago, everyone was shocked as no one knew about it. He didn't get any treatment as his family all thought that would have shown a lack of faith and they were believing for full healing, and telling others would have increased the chances that people wouldn't be in agreement for the healing.
He still died.

They think it was either Nero or Caligula. Almost certainly Nero though.

Haha finally someone posts something more whacky than my threads!
The idea of a supernatural 'antichrist' is absurd. Religious fundamentalism is on it's way (if it's not already there) to guiding every political office in the world, but that's the extent of supernaturalism in politics. The idea is actually kinda funny, lol.
As far as a World Government goes, I'm of the opinion international protocols are more likely to succeed. IGO's are such a bureaucratic nightmare...There's zero chance a consensus could ever be reached. Mandated protocols are much more straight forward and efficient. As the world becomes more globalized, it'll be increasingly necessary to have agreed upon 'rules' for everything from trade to environment human rights...Various forms of these things already exist. The question is how truly international they will be.

I consider myself religious and go to service on a regular basis but I do not let myself get overwhelmed in the future, one can spend so much time trying to decipher the future and forget about the beautiful message from the past. My 2 cents anyways.

Not true at all, 50-100 years ago, even 1000 or 2000 years ago, people who were determined could still get their message across through indoctrination, false-hope, propaganda, prophesizing, scare tactics con games, etc... It's human nature that makes certain people suceptible. If anything, the internet is the tool that allows people to see more than just that narrow message and avoid these pitfalls that lead to the creation of conspiracy groups, cults, new religions, religious mania, etc.

It is called Gematria. If you add up the numerical values for the letters spelling Caesar Nero in Hebrew, it adds up to 666. This was a symbol for the beast in their day who persecuted the early Christians in horrible ways. Any educated Christian knows that, and also knows the Book of Revelation is not a map used for predicting the end of the world. Jesus said the end would come like a thief in the night when we least expect it. The Christian belief is that we don't know when it will be, and so there is no point trying to predict it with silly ideas like a universal currency being a sign.
That said, there are uneducated crazies of every sort, religious and otherwise that may believe all sorts of things. There is also a lot of money to be made by selling apocalyptic theories. I don't expect the industry to go away anytime soon.

Fortunately I'm an atheist - so an Antichrist just doesn't concern me at all! I'd take him about as seriously as...

And when your great-great-great-great-great grandfather was in his 20s. It's eschatological mania.

Man, back in the year 1000, we were all going nuts, we thought it was the tribulation! Oh wait, and then nothing happened. Also see Mormon and Jehovah's witness predictions for the past century.

I actually spent a summer learning about the Mormon faith about 8 years ago. A couple gals came to my house each week and gave me thier spiel on Joseph Smith and all. About the time they time told me i could baptise my recently deceased father was about as close as i've ever come to literaly throwing people out of my house. Talk about a twisted faith, and you're right, same applies to their predictions

Didn't the last thread on 'the mark of the beast' degenerate into the idea of chopping someone's right hand off to commit identity theft. From there it went really downhill when I suggested that you could put the mark on your forehead instead.

I don't think they needed you to be involved in the baptism to carry it out.
There was a show on PBS last week about the LDS church and according to the story millions (the number might have been 200 million but I can't remember) of deceased people have been baptized posthumously in Mormon temples.
They had some fella on there who had left the church and he said he was physically dunked in the name of some dead person 20 or 30 names in a stretch and it went on all the time.

I think this is more of an attempt to skew something that could be true and put them side by side with things that most people wouldn't think to be true, thus making the one that could be true look silly.
I believe a NAU and world government could definitely happen, and I believe there are some conspirators out there trying to make it happen, but I really doubt the antichrist and mark of the beast business.
