Agree with everything but number 6 for me I want to invest just enough for the future. Enjoy today as much as possible worry about tommorrow when it comes around.

Y'know, I walked by the building manager yesterday, and as usual I said something like "Hey sexy you're looking FINE today," and she had to ask, "Jammies you big dirty beast why are you always in a such a good mood?"

This is interesting. I've been wondering for awhile - when people ask "how's it going" I always "say good thanks, you" when sometimes it's a complete lie.

Now I know that they don't want to hear why my day/week/etc is crappy, nor do I want to know about theirs. That said, I'm sick of lying, I think I'd just like to say "shizzy, now piss off" without being rude or hurting someones feelings. That would make me feel better

I always respond with the line that things are okay, and if i did complain nobody would listen anyway. Most people just laugh.

My secret to stress-less living is this. I get up in the morning and tell myself that I am gonna have a great day today. Then I think "happy" things in the shower.

Then I go downstairs to see my two kids screaming and fighting over some crappy toy and the reality sets in

Seriously though, telling yourself that you're gonna have a good day does wonders for you.

You know what's even more interesting? It's when you actually tell the truth and say that you feel like crap because you're sick or something and people take you for a whiner.

I got divorced. Nothing like a bad realationship to ramp up the stress.

Now I have two small kids to deal with, different stress but at least I have a say in what goes on in my life. I love it.

Also a glass of Red wine with the new bride after the kids are asleep is GOLD!!

5. I will continue to walk to work when the weather isn't terrible, and I have left a set of running clothes at work so I can jog over lunch 2 days/week, I will also do dips, push-ups, sit-ups, arm curls and shoulder presses with whatever weight is laying around, and stretch each day.

6. I will give myself more realistic goals at work.

7. Reduce alcohol consumption.

There's probably more that I will do... what else does everyone do to relieve stress?
I moved to the country about 10 years ago . . . . . . that's when I found out my job apparently wasn't stressful. Not having to drive through the city anymore reduced my stress to nearly zero within a month. Seriously. Rather amazing.

Also, don't sweat the small stuff. Seems innocuous but there are a lot of things in your life you could probably let run right off your back.

However, someone asked me a similar question a few years ago though and my answer was a simple one:

Go home by 4 in the afternoon.

Somewhere between three and four I'm on my way home (or for a run or some biking) . . . . . and that gives me about six or seven hours of a life outside of work. Every weekday. Creates a balance.

Pretty simple.

Also, as below, chasing the cars of passing strangers on a wind swept lake is apparently relaxing . . . . although it's not my thing. I think the second half of this point is: "Get out of the city occasionaly. "

Have to agree with what Cowperson said.
I moved from Calgary to a small town about 5 years ago. My commute time to work is now 7 minutes/vehicle 15 minutes/bicycle. I remember the days driving hard on Deerfoot in am's, stressed. Then after work, getting home in traffic, stressed. Couldn't imagine doing that now.
Other things that lower my stress in these regards are, I can go to my kids school 5 minutes away from my work and volunteer, when they go skating etc. My kid can walk to school in 2 minutes. I can go home for lunch if I wanted to. I can be at the golf course(the one I like) in 20 minutes, or another one in 2 minutes. I can walk home from any bar in town.
I would not have wanted to live in a small town when I was at the partying/girl chasing stage in my life. Calgary was awesome for that, but now that I'm older, I must say, having more time for yourself and your family relieves stress.

edit - oh yeah, golf relieves stress, for me anyway. 5 hours being outdoors, in a setting that you can completely forget about your problems.....because you just shot your ball into a pond.

Yup. Small town country living is where it's at. It's amazing when i moved to High River some 6 years ago just how much slower the pace of life is out here. No more stress of having to fight traffic and drivers in a hurry to get somewhere fast. The commute to Calgary is so relaxing. Put in a CD and set the cruise on and you're there in under a half hour. Quicker than trying to drive across Calgary and deal with traffic.

Love the dog pictures btw. I think we know more about your dogs than we know about you

Golf for sure. And don't forget that great exercise you're getting walking the course. That and the chance to meet some interesting people along the way.

Naw, I just asked my boss to let me come in 10 minutes early each day, and tack the extra 50 minutes onto my Thursday "hockey" lunch. He said as long as the work got done, he was totally fine with it.
