The 1988 Calgary Olympic logo was all-time. Conjoined C's that look like a snowflake, a maple leaf, cowboy boots, or conjoined C's. Whoever devised it was a genius.
I had no idea Canada sucked balls so much that year. What a disgrace for the host nation! Hopefully the Canadians fare better in 2010.
^ agreed on the logo, it was awesome, best so far by a long shot...
i still have all my pins too, in a show box, along with the 'pin bible' the coca-cola pin guide...
i went to the swiss/finland hockey game too - BIG upset, 2-1 for the swiss - was called out of class by the principal to answer the phone from my mom, saying she scored tickets from her friend.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
and a young us player by the name of corey millen was top 10 in scoring, iirc

I was at that game. I thought the Czechs won something like 11-2? USA's goalie was Marc Behrend (who played for the Jets). I thought it was interesting that Hasek wore number two.
The only event I saw at the Olympics was Canada losing (5-0 I think) to USSR.
Well it was 20 years ago so my memory might have changed things a bit. 11-2 though? Wow.
For some reason I ended up going to lots of events, and the best part of that meant pretty much no school for two weeks.
I was at a US hockey game and Brian Leetch was actively trying to pick up chicks in the stands during stops in play. No kiddin'. I was right down by the ice and he's making eyes and smiling at some cute babes as they are lining up for the faceoff.
Because of all the weather and wind and whatnot they had that big day at COP when they were running a bunch of different events --aerials, moguls, bobsled, ski jumping. I think they said there were 180 thousand people there that day. I don't know about that, but it was a hell of a crowd.
I saw Eddie the Eagle nearly kill himself. How many people can sit in that bowl? Everyone in there was holding their breath, I swear.
That whole thing was a lot of fun.
I saw a woman on the train last winter wearing an absolutely pristine Sun Ice Olympic volunteer jacket. She must have kept this thing in a climate controlled vault.
I saw a commercial for figure skating on American TV last week and Katarina Witt was in it and man, she is still a bombshell 20 years later. Wow.

.
I forgot about Eddie The Eagle Edwards and his coke bottle lenses from England. That guy was the star of the Olympics. Cripes he was being interviewed almost daily on some newscast.
I remember standing on the side of heritage drive with a torch candle in my hand as the flame went by.. I was only 4 or 5 but I remember it fairly well..
Hey! That's where I watched the torch go by as well... Up on the grassy hill behind what is now Winners.
I went to a few different events. A couple of hockey games, bobsledding, ski jumping... Our class had more girls than boys and we got to go to an event together. The kids voted and the girls and their figure skating beat us boys out for hockey. Laaaammme.
I remember those candle torches and I remember the olympic song got played on the radio relentlessly. It was a pretty good song though.

I was down across from the arenas by the Heritage C-Train station when the torch went by.
On Wednesday at 8:00pm, TSN has a special looking back at the Calgary Games, and looking forward to Vancouver. It looks like they're going to be interviewing a bunch of the famous faces from 88: Boitano, Eddy the Eagle, the Jamaicans, and Manley are all in the commercial.
Should be good, although it makes me feel old that it was 20 years ago now.

hahaha Robyn Perry....she lived in Okotoks for a while and I remember trying to "date" her. In grade 4 or 5. Sadly, she left me for greener pastures
I was in the opening ceremonies; part of the "youth dancers" I think it was called. Anyone else? I believe I was 12 at the time, and all I really remember was rehearsing for nearly 3 years, up to 4 days a week.

Somewhere in my many boxes i have a video tape of the closing ceremonies that i taped on my VCR. Might have to dig it out and watch it again. Come to think of i also did the opening ceremonies too.

It was a great logo. Best ever.
Canada didn't suck. The Olympics weren't fair back then when Canada went up against the Communist "Amateurs".

I remember being pulled out of school by my parents a couple of times to attend events, including the aforementioned 5-0 drubbing of Canada by the good ol' CCCP. I was only about 8 years old at the time, kind of makes me wish I was a bit older so I could have appreciated it but really, would a 12 year old have thought it was any more important? I hope to be able to attend some events in Vancouver when it's their turn. I'll probably have to start saving up right now to do it though.
