You must be Pee-Wee Herman.
Theaters are a dying breed, and nobody seems to care. The theater companies dont seem to be doing anything about it except gouging the crap out of the poor suckers that still go.

That makes any movie awkward.

I wish they'd bring back a drive-in. I rarely have the problems with people acting like morons during the movie (usually cause I'll go to a matinee after the movie has been out a while, so it's mostly empty), but at the drive-in if someone was a moron, you could just roll up your windows and turn the stereo WAY up so as to drown them out.
Plus I loved the triple feature, dusk 'till dawn. You kids don't know what you're missing.

Ugh...my only experience at the drive-in was a double feature of Free Willy 2, followed by Batman Forever. Not really the theatre's fault but it left an awful taste in my mouth.

You wander into the swamp you gotta tangle with teh monster!!
Fortunately I for one, do not have important things to do. I will continue bashing Spiderman 3 all day.
As for the drive-in, I've had good experiences with the drive in because it includes one of the most important factors of any movie going experience:
You're isolated from all the crazy ######bags.

I went and saw Juno recently at Crow. I call it the wild west theatre there ever since seeing huge cat fight . Seriously there were clumps of girls hair being ripped out and thrown down. It was like Springer; which is what the audience started chanting.
Anyway, the line up for consessions was ridiculous, much longer than anything at a flames game. It took almost 25 minutes to get corn and coke! Still for some reason i love the movie going experience and can't imagine ever making a ruling suggesting I won't go see any at a theatre. But we have stopped seeing ones we know will make do as a DVD.

A bit OT but oh man, it's been years since I been to one of those. They kick ass!! I usually went to the one in Prince George (1 of 5??? in BC), it wasn't the biggest or the fanciest, but had the pro's about it listed above.
Why did the big 4 screen here close down and when did that happen? I remember that one. It rocked. "This movie sux...hey that one looks cool"

The Hub Oil fire put oodles of oily sludge all over the land where the theatre was, and they decided it was too expensive to clean it up and reopen.

the incident with the catfight wasn't at the opening night of Borat was it??
the crowd in the theater literally starts chanting "Jerry" a couple of minutes into the fight. finally the theater people came in before it got ugly.
I was there too and my buddy has the whole incident on his cell phone. it really set the stage for one of the most hilarious movies ive ever seen.

It was absolutely for Borat! Too funny. I saw the whole thing develop early and was wondering if something was going to happen. It was hilarious watching as the whole crowd started realizing something was up and like a wave went silent and all turned their heads. Except that is for my wife who was blithly unaware of the whole thing and I had to draw her attention to it.
There was punching, slapping, drink dumping on one of their heads, tons of swearing and then the hair, that's what I couldn't believe.

I rarely go to the movie theatre these days. A lot of the reasons have already been mentioned in this thread.
For me its like this:
-Movies today are way too long. Bring back the 90 min or less movies from the 80s. I dont want to sit in my seat watching a 2hour+ movie without getting up for food/drinks, bathroom, stretch, or just to stand up.
-Add to that getting there early to get a parking spot, getting into the line up for the movie, and then the slow traffic getting out of the theatre.
-Then add up the cost of the tickets and food and drinks.
-Then theres the crappy movies out there where its hit and miss to get something good.
All that adds up to it not being worth going to the theatre.
Im past the stage where I need to see the latest release on opening weekend.
These days I get a better "movie experience" watching movies at home with my home theatre system.

You'd think that after paying $10 or $15 bucks (x~100?), the theater would have an usher inside each room to shush people and remove the un-shushables.
I gave up on theaters looong ago. I saw Borat earlier this year (and it was by far the worst movie I've ever seen EVER). Prior to that I saw The Green Mile. It's been years and years. Nothing has changed. Between dumasses in the crowd, overpaying for a movie (like Borat), going to a movie that is just too long for a theater (Green Mile), spending a small fortune for popcorn and pop (two of the cheapest things in the world)...
Theaters just plain suck. They're for kids. Teens. They're like bars for kids. Adults have no business at a theater. Not me, anyway.
And I'd like to re-iterate that Borat was the stupidest f'n movie ever made. The worst money I ever spent. I'm getting pissed off just thinking about that hour and a half of idiocy on film.

Oh totally. If I had a home theatre system with HD and surround sound, I dont think I'd ever go to the theatres again. But for us poor azz students who are forced to watch DVD's on our PS2's with 19" TV's, unfortunately we gotta suck it up and hit the zoo that is the theatres for the big action movies.

I dunno, there's something I really like about seeing a movie in the theatre. There's something about experiencing the movie with a whole whack of people at once (like 200). That seems to make a difference for some reason. Take comedies - you can't say they're funnier at home.
I also like the big (really big) screen, the popcorn, etc, just the whole event of it, I guess. Sometimes people are annoying, but for some reason - and I don't really know what exactly - I still think it's worth it.
