They should make the torch in the shape of a huge bong, and the only way to light it is to apply the fire to the stem while inhaling.

They can get Jay and Silent Bob to light it.

Indeed. (boo editing).

The amusing part about claiming that Vancouver would get an environmental/socialist to light the torch is that the city just chopped down most of the trees in an outdoor plaza over the weekend.

They should let an amature athlete light it. I still don't think professional athletes should be allowed in the Olympics.

Is there any doubt Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams will perform at the Opening Ceremonies?

It's in 2 years, so hopefully Furtado fades out of the limelight and Adams loses his voice permenantly.

Here's hoping for a Trooper opening act!

Won't Nelly's 15 minutes of fame created by her new kinda slutty image be over and done with by then?

And we've apologized to our allies around the world for Bryan Adam's enough, do we have to rip that scab open again?

Next thing you know we're going to unleash Celine Dion on the unsuspecting public again.

Well it would be ironic if such a person was selected considering the protests by both the environmental groups and the homeless groups who claim that the money spent on the Olympics would be better spent on their causes.

I agree that it should be an amature athlete. It would fully represent the Olympic movement and not be making a social statement. I've never been a fan of using the Olympics as a backdrop for a nation's politics. Hence I refuse to watch this summer's Olympics.

I think Betty Fox would be cool. Her or Nancy Greene are my picks out of the TSN list

Boy that's not what I said at all.

But the olympics should be represented more by a athlete who sacrifices a better paying career, trains for years to havefor many what will be just one chance to achieve the top of their sport - which is olympic gold.

As opposed to NHLers who are paid millions, get together for a few weeks and really do care more about the Stanley Cup than Olympic gold (Canadian NHLers do anyways)

Wasn't it a 10 or 11 year old girl who lit the torch in Calgary? I guess that probably counts as an amateur athlete though.

My money is on a First Nations torch-lighter(s) in Vancouver, probably not an athlete, and probably a woman.

Yeah getting Terry's mom to light it would be really cool. It'd be even better if they could somehow like another post mentioned get Terry to appear to light it at the same time.

Boo to that. There's enough CG in movies, it would be brutal in the opening ceremonies - tribute to the man would be awesome - but a CG terry fox lighting the torch? Cheese-o-rama.
