I'm really looking forward to the Get Smart movie. I don't really like Anne Hathaway, but I think she could play a good Agent 99.

My wife is still teasing me about how much I was geeking out at the trailer for 10,000 BC. Looks completely historically inaccurate, but you can't go wrong with a whole whack of woolly mammoths. Well, except for the mammoths in Ice Age.

I added top 10 box office both worldwide and domestic for 2008. I will update this thread all year to keep it correct.

I added links from June to December and removed a few movies that are no longer being released in 2008.

Hahaha same here. I'm a huge history/anthropology nerd, and when me and the girl were in the theatres and saw that in the previews for the first time, I didnt even have to say anything. Like 30 seconds into the preview she just looked at me and said "You think that looks good, dont you. I'm not seeing that with you". I just started laughing, I'm too easy to read.

Haha exactly what I was thinking. Completely wrong from a historical POV. They'll probably have ancient agriculture, writing and advanced settlements in the movie too, just to piss people off.

Still, looks entertaining.

Added links for unscheduled 2008 releases and also deleted some that are no longer likely to be released this year or are straight-to-DVD or TV releases.

10,000 BC looks brutal.

Did I see monuments and civilization at the end there? Uhh looks like 4,000 years too early.

As a pretty big blackjack player, I'll definitely go see 21, try to pick up some tips, although, I've tried the card counting thing, didn't seem to work for me, guess I was doing it wrong.

Yikes, you know its a rough start to the year when One Missed Call and First Sunday are the two highest grossing movies. At least Cloverfield and Rambo should make short work of that.

Couple things for certain: 1) that is a long list of movies but maybe 5 of them will be any good and 2) 85% of the movies on the list are probably remakes. I realized, after seeing that Future Shop commercial a million times watching football this weekend, that it's only a matter of time before there's a Smokey and the Bandit remake, probably starring Ben Stiller.

I think these are the movies that are must-see for me:

Cloverfield
Be Kind Rewind
The Other Boleyn Girl
21
Run, Fatboy, Run
Leatherheads
Shine A Light
Harold & Kumar 2
Get Smart
Wall-E
Hancock
The Dark Knight
"Untitled X-Files Sequel"
Bond 22
Harry Potter 6
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Yes Man (I LOVE Jim Carrey)
Star Trek

I think there will be plenty of good movies this year because on my list there are no limited release movies (many of which are good) and many movies that I have not mentioned above will probably be fantastic (although some of the ones I mentioned will probably flop).

Wow, after reading that list I'm impressed about how many good movies are coming out this year. Because right now its an absolute crapfest, there hasnt been one movie I've even remotely wanted to see so far in the past month(though Ive somehow managed to have been dragged to two in the past week. Charlie Wilson's War blows, I was bored the whole time. But surprisingly Sweeney Todd was entertaining). Somethin to look forward to I guess. I'm pumped for Cloverfield this Friday, I wanna know what the hell the thing is attacking them.

I almost don't. So often in movies a great job is done of building suspense only to have it ruined when the monster or whatever it is is finally revealed. Case in point: I Am Legend, which was quite well done in a lot of ways but ultimately sucked because the stupid CGI zombies looked SO lame it was literally laughable.

Playing with people's imaginations is a far more powerful tool. Your mind can cook up all sorts of things a Hollywood geek behind a monitor just can't.

Agreed about Charlie Wilson's War. Why? Why did I watch it?

x100, I actually even said that earlier in this thread. They looked like Imhotep from friggin The Mummy, awful. I actually read it was originally people in makeup, but they couldnt effectively act out the symptoms the infected were supposed to be suffering with(eg. constant hyperventilating), so they cut em and went to CGI. I agree, horrible decision, and really put a damper on what wouldve otherwise been an awesome movie with a strong acting job by Smith.

As for Cloverfield, I'm praying its Godzilla(though I have a feeling it wont be). They need to right all the wrongs they made in the '97 version.

J. J. Abrams said the whole idea of the movie is to create a new monster so it won't be anything you have seen before and especially not Godzilla.

I'm pumped for the movie as well, but with all this anticipation, there is bound to be a sense of disappointment once we find out. I don't know what it could be where I would be blown away or shocked or where I think to myselt, "WOW, THATS AWESOME!!!"

I saw the teaser in July when Transformers came out, so its been 7 months of anticipation, so, I guarantee I wont be able to withstand a sense of disappointment for me. Having said that, I know Im still gonna love the movie.
