i found 2007 to be a very good year for new releases, though not sure i'd include Porcupine Tree (as good as they are) since they're prog rock and not heavy at all. my favorite of 07:

Down - Over The Under
Symphony X - Paradise Lost (album of the year)
Clutch - From Beale Street To Oblivion (runner up)
Slough Feg - Hardworlder
Volbeat - Rock The Rebel / Meet The Devil (runner up #2)

Ah there is some music I can agree with!! If you like Dropkick you should check out the Street Dogs. Its the original singer from the Dropkick murphy's. Their latest album is called Fading American Dream, and is a very very good album. Its a little over a year old now..

new bongripper?! why was i not informed?! i must track this down! i've been listening to the great barrier reefer a ton recently.

if i had to pick one for 07, it would probably be:
swallow the sun - hope

i know its not 'heavy' so i didn't include it but honorable mention goes to the new nest album.

After looking into it more it looks like they've re-released the great barrier reefer.

I just ordered a copy of that and hippie killer. everyone should go check out their myspace page. very groovy band.

Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver

I know their CD came out at the end of '06, but their music wasn't really listened to until 2007... well, for me, anyways...

Yeah, that PT could go either way. But, they've definitely added the heavier element due to Steve Wilson's love of really, really good Death Metal (Morbid Angel, Opeth and Death). I've included it as I dig it, not as much as Deadwing, but it's still better than 99.9% of what gets radio play. I've also included God Is An Astronaut which really isn't that "heavy" (a relative term which is why I used it) either. I just dig good music in general whether it be death metal, stoner/doom, country (Cash, Hank Williams and not that new shlte), jazz or whatever.

Megadeth's United Abominations was my favourite of the harder stuff last year (I admittedly don't like much of the heavier stuff due to the "vocals" of most newer bands)

New Bongripper just came out (today I believe). I just ordered it up, but haven't listened to it yet (I did come across a leaked copy on a blogspot). If Phanuef3 or anyone else is interested just pm me and I can send you the link to the download.
