Why does it have to be in a separate thread? It's the exact same thing. Whether you are hunting, slaughtering animals for meat, or throwing a cat in a microwave it is the same thing. Some animal is getting killed.
This has to be one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard.

So, to get things straight, the RESULT is all that matters.

So, killing a human in self-defense, during times of war, is the EXACT same thing as randomly walking up to someone on the street and shooting them in the back of the head?

I mean using your logic, the end result is the same...a person died.

In self defence as in war, the person killed was trying to kill you. So if you hunt like the guy in South Park who yells "IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR US!!!" before shooting the animal, I guess you have a point.

Whether a calf is being raised for veal, a buck is shot, or a cat thrown in a microwave... an animal suffers and is killed. So the difficulty with enhancing laws to curtail the latter is to continue to allow the first two.

There is a reason why the Canadian Sports Fishing Industry Association was against C-17. C-17 became C-50 and THAT got held up by animal use industries seeking a complete exemption from the law.

Here is what I'm trying to get at. This is why those people that throw cats in microwaves will never be properly punished:
http://www.thestar.com/News/article/185217

The federal governments, both Liberal and Conservative, have been trying to amend the laws to stop animal abuse but are having difficulty finding wording that would outlaw "cats in microwave" but still allow hunting, fishing and animal agriculture.

S***, and I was just going to post that as long as this doesn't make the lolcat thread it won't be harshing my buzz.
I think the real result of this post is that I'm laughing at something horrific now though.

no offence, but, you are a little out of touch with reality if you really believe that

Sounds like a vegetarian. They believe that meat consumption = torture and pain.

Oi. I don't know how many times I have to explain this.

The reason that successive governments have utterly failed to enhance our archaic animal abuse laws is because they cannot get the wording right that hunters and farmers can live with. Because whether you are hunting, slaughtering animals for meat or throwing a cat in a microwave, it is the same thing. Some animal is getting killed.

This isn't a philosophical position. I'm stating that the government is having a great deal of difficulty imposing tougher sentences and expanding it to cover such things as stray animals such as stray cats. As soon as something is written down, there are hoards of lobbyists against it, and the bills inevitably disappear.

Thats all fine and dandy with regards to government legislation. But that was never the issue being discussed. The reason people jumped all over you was because of this remark

Aye. It is. Which is why the government is having trouble amending the legislation. This is really going in circles here.

No it isn't. You are the only one debating changing legislation. Everyone else is just saying what kind of sick SOB's these kids are. Even if you want to debate the legislation, they dont have to change anything, all they need to do is increase the penalty for commiting the current offence.

There is no way that killing for use such as food is the same as killing for fun.

Nor is killing with a level of cruelty the same as trying to kill as humanely as possible.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't eat animals. And yes one can argue to death about how humanely animals are killed/used in the food system.

But you're going to lose supporters if you lump everyone into the same catagory. Not to mention you are ignoring many logical arguments and several social situations that need to be taken into account on the larger issue.

I don't see how you can say that a killing where the dead are used for a useful purpose is that same as a killing that involves torture, waste, and commits a crime.

The second situation flies in the face of many more morals (not to mention laws) than the first.

I'm saddened and disgusted. If someone did this to one of my two cats (or both for that matter) I would be thrown in jail because I would take justice into my own hands.

i'm curious about what meat you're eating if it causes no pain to the animals.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VIjanhKqVC4

if you're alright with that, that's one thing and its a personal choice but don't try to deny that it causes a heck of a lot of pain and suffering.

Hahaha... I was waiting for a response. My sick sense of humour... I'm half-assed kidding. My mom called me a "liberal" the other day b/c I couldn't care less about gay marriage. I was just joking around by taking one POV and using it to paint an entire group of people.

And, for the record, I didn't watch the video and I will continue to eat meat.

We'll I'm sure that the serious scolding and the suspended sentences that these punks get will certainly turn their lives around and make them staunch upstanding citizens.

I'm sure that the ministry of hugs and boo boo kissing will make sure that these thugs will learn a firm lesson about committing crimes and killing animals.

"One of the four Camrose teens accused of microwaving a cat to death is on probation for setting his own brother on fire last year, his mother told Sun Media yesterday..."

And yet, she goes on to try to paint her kid as some sort of victim?

There are only a few things in this world that really un-hinge me. Unnessescary cruelty - especially to something that can't defend itself - is right at the top of the list. I envision doing horrible things to these kids, if anyone ever did something like that to my cat I'd end up in jail for what I did to them.

I'd set up a table somewhere public, chain the kids to it, and make them eat the cat. No leaving the table till the whole cat is consumed.
