I thought both goals by Liverpool were a combo of skill and luck. They certainly had to take advantage of the situation though because the away game will be a tough one.

Not to mention they played 2 thirds of the game with the extra man, Marco Materazzi essentially cost his team that game, and unfortunately, they dug themselves a hole that will be tough to climb out of.

It might ultimately cost them the series.

But thats okay because it works in Liverpool's favor!

+1.

The TV coverage has been brutal. Why the hell are they replaying the Real Madrid vs Roma game 3 times in one day and not covering the other games?

Weak.

How is this Shaw's fault?? Shaw doesn't make the decision to show curling. Shaw doesn't make the decision to replay the same games. It's the networks that do. Shaw just carries the stations.

By the way, the coverage yesterday for me was fine, I was flicking between two games on Setanta and RDS at the same time. Back in the day, you would be lucky if you had one to watch during curling time. I was quite happy with Shaw yesterday for making Setanta and RDS available.

shaw made the decision to not carry TSN Alternate and not show the games on their own channel anymore.

There is a thread for Shaw bashing somewhere else, lets leave this thread for game commentary.

I'm going to make some predictions:

AC Milan def. Arsenal - Kaka and Pato...come on boys!

Lyon draws Man U.

Barca destroys Celtic

Sevilla draws Fenerbahce.

I'm not going with scores because Champions League is way too unpredictable.

I'm only sad because I cant watch them all...

Thats what I've been using, my boss is a nice guy and all but having all 4 games playing on my computer at work would understandably try his patience.

Well I sure hope United comes out much like they did when they ran the Gooners into the ground despite not having Ronaldo on the weekend.
Ronaldo is back in so should draw a ton of attention from Lyon defenders.
United will have to be careful to avoid free kicks in prime areas as Juninho is superb with the free kicks.

Glory Glory!

United is going down my friend. They are overconfident, and Juninho can punish them from anywhere!

United loses, Arsenal loses, Chelsea drew, Liverpool Won. Only acceptable outcomes!

SPOILERS:

16 Vennegoor (Celtic) scores! The home side break through as Barcelona fail to clear with Scott McDonald harrying Carles Puyol into a loose clearance. Lee Naylor delivers the cross first time from the corner of the penalty area, and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink dives to head powerfully beyond the diving Víctor Valdés.

18 Messi (Barcelona) scores! Barcelona equalise within two minutes, Messi on target. The Argentinian breaks down the right, plays a lovely one-two with Deco and fires high into the net as Naylor fails to nick the ball off the striker as he slides in near the by-line.

38 Robson (Celtic) scores! Celtic are back in front as Robson marks his UEFA Champions League debut with a fine goal. Again it comes from the left wing, Aiden McGeady skipping away from two tackles and lifting in a cross for Robson to supply a looping header that drops over the despairing Valdes.

52 Henry (Barcelona) scores! Gary Caldwell is made to pay for some slack defending as Thierry Henry scores a lovely leveller for the visitors. The defender’s pass was intercepted by Ronaldinho who fed Henry down the left. The former Arsenal FC man did the rest, charging towards goal before curling the ball high into the Celtic net from a tight angle.

79 Messi (Barcelona) scores! Messi pounces again as Barcelona take the lead for the first time. The visitors broke quickly down the right but Caldwell’s attempted clearance hit a team-mate and the ball for Messi who prodded in his sixth goal in the competition this season despite Boruc getting a touch to his shot.
--------

17 Kežman (Fenerbahçe) scores! The Turkish team take the lead to the delight of the home support, Mateja Kežman ghosting in unmarked to head Uğur Boral's pinpoint left-wing cross past the exposed Andrés Palop.

23 Edu (Fenerbahçe) scores an own goal. Disaster for the home team as Sevilla strike back within six minutes of falling behind. It is a fortunate equaliser as Edu inadvertently turns a right-wing

57 Lugano (Fenerbahçe) scores! Fenerbahçe are back in front as Alex delivers an out-swinging corner from the left and Lugano rises unmarked to power an unstoppable header into the top corner of the net. Palop can only stand and watch.

66 Escudé (Sevilla) scores! Sevilla are level again as Christian Poulsen flicks on Diego Capel's left-wing corner at the near post and Julien Escudé steals in unnoticed at the back post to thump a first-time shot into the roof of the net from close range.

87 Semih Şentürk (Fenerbahçe) scores! Fenerbahçe are in front for the third time and surely this time it is a decisive lead. Substitute Semih Şentürk advances into the penalty area and fires in a low shot that takes a slight deflection off Ivica Dragutinović and spins into the corner of the net. The Turkish team look like they will have a 3-2 lead to defend in Spain.
--------

54 Benzema (Lyon) scores! The home side finally break through and it is the irrepressible Benzema who breaks the deadlock. The 20-year-old collects a short ball from Jérémy Toulalan and, with the United defence seemingly anticipating a return pass, turns smoothly to drive a low shot beyond Edwin van der Sar and in off the left-hand post.

87 Tévez (Man. United) scores!

Got lucky....

Amazing games today, Arsenal were all over AC Milan, AC's keeper kept them in it making some important saves for a 20 minute span.

Unfortunately advantage Arsenal, they didnt allow that crucial away goal.

Nicely done Fener!

Now the trick will be to not let Sevilla's two away goals get the better of them in the return leg..

United really looked like they were just playing for a draw and were a little stunned by the Lyon goal. In the 10 minutes up to the goal they looked horrible -- never seen them put so many bad passes straight to the opponent. But Ronaldo's free kick was darn near in and poof they pull it out with a HUGE goal.

Little bit of a roundup to keep people focused and on track for the second leg.

Schalke 1 - Porto 0 : Advantage Schalke with the win, but with only one goal at home they havent given themselves much breathing room.

Roma 2 - Real Madrid 1 : Advantage Roma on aggregate, but Madrid have an away goal which could hurt Roma should Madrid Hold them to 1-1 or win 1-0 on the second leg.

Olympiacos 0 - Chelsea 0: Advantage Olympiacos, denying Chelsea the Away goal combined with a strong second leg could see them through.

Liverpool 2 - Inter 0 : Arguably the best result of the first leg. Liverpool denying Inter an Away goal and giving themselves a 2 goal cushion.

Celtic 2 - Barca 3 : Advantage Barca, 3 away goals.

Lyon 1- Man U 1 : Unfortunately advantage Man U with the away goal and no aggregate difference.

Fenerbahce 3 - Sevilla 2 : Fenerbahce took advantage of their home field but set themselves up for something of a disappointment should they not follow it up with a strong performance in Spain. 2 Away goals conceded could haunt them later on.

Arsenal 0 - AC Milan 0 : Advantage to Arsenal, no away goals conceded and a very strong performance.

I'll post more before the second leg...

Fortunately, this came in just in time...

Wouldn't a 1-1 result be just what Roma want? Not sure how the away goal would hurt Roma in that case.
