Sabres win big conference game
Sabres 2 Senators 1

This was a close but very important game for the Sabres. Giguere bounced back nicely after giving up 5 the night before. The Sabres win keeps them in 9th in the conference 2 back of the Sens. This was another game without Fedotenko and Steen, and all the offence (as usual) came from the first line of Wolski, Penner and Reinprecht. The secondary scoring from Mair, Scatchard and Ortmeyer seems to have dried up, and the team still isn't getting much from Ryan Smyth and Joffrey Lupul (I know, I know). Still the Flames seem happy with Smyth and his defence play as he is giving the team 20-25 solid minutes a night. The Sabres PK came up big killing off a 5 minute penalty and a full two minute 5on 3 in the middle stanza.

The Sabres have a day off before big games against Boston and Minnesota. Fedotenko looks ready to go, and there may well be some changes to the 2nd line. Nick Schultz, as always, remains at 98 OV

Good to see that the Predators held their own in a very, very even game against the Thrashers. The way things have been going in Nashville, we'll take the point!! Not only were the shots and final score even, but the same result in the AHL with Milwaukee and Chicago playing to a 2-2 tie as well. Hopefully all of our guys are healed before the Christmas break and a chance to re-tool or at least re-think some things for us!

Flyers 6-Canadiens 2

Big win for the Flyers as they beat the Canadiens 6-2 in Montreal on Tuesday night . As was the case in their last game the Flyers got into some early penalty trouble as noted goon Andy McDonald head-butted sissy Canadien and the team was down to four men just four minutes into the game. However, unlike last game it was the Flyers, not their opposition, who took advantage as Shea Weber scored the short-handed goal to put the Flyers ahead 1-0. The Flyers never looked back as they were led by Andy Mcdonald, Temmu Selanne and Chris Pronger , all recording three point nights. Dominic Hasek was effective stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced and more importantly didn’t drop a single CD point! Hasek has had days off where his CD has dropped so for him to play a full game and not drop is a big accomplishment for the 90 year old goalie.

The top line is starting to come alive offensively and Selanne is finally starting to produce like expected. If this keeps up the Flyers should be able to maintain their play-off spot and should be looked at as a real contender. However, as we have seen to often this season this may just be a short term resurgence.

The Flyers get a day before hosting the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.

The Phantoms skated to a 2-1 victory. It appears the days of 10+ goal are over for the Phantoms as they have played to much more respectable scores as of late. Either way the young guys will take the win and continue to hope that one day they can play for the big team in the future. (Although there is no chance any of these bums will make it!)

Game Stars
1 - Teemu Selanne (FLY)
2 - Andy McDonald (FLY)
3 - Brendan Shanahan (FLY)

Last nights game was a must win for the Stars. To get into the playoffs, can't be dropping games to the Lightning, Blue Jackets, Jets etc. (A couple weeks ago Winnipeg won.)

Luckily there was no repeat of that debacle as the Stars won 4-1. Steve Bernier finally got his first goal as a Star. He has really been banged up and struggling since the trade. If he gets it together and gets some more points, it'll be safe for him to buy a house.

The Stars are 6-5 since the Hannan trade, and have won their last 4 games on home ice. Team record since the 9 game winless streak is 10-7.

Special teams play has been much improved since Hannan to the team. The powerplay unit is now 13th in the league, PK unit is still down at 27th. Other than the 3 PPG's Montreal scored in the last game, penalty killing has been much better.
