This may seem like a dumb technical question, but how does one use their cellphone as a modem for their computer?

USB cable from the PC to where your charger plugs in. You then launch your browser on your cell, and if you are on the HS network you get speeds similar to a slow DSL connection.
I used to use it when I was on call for work, could VPN into work from the lake if I needed to. Would cost me $10-20 to just reset a guy's password; but worth it to be able to go to the lake while I'm on call.

There's a difference between browsing websites from his phone and using his phone as a wireless modem so that his connected PC could download gigabytes and gigabytes of pirated movies from bittorrent sites.
The former is covered by his unlimited browsing plan. The latter is not.

Does this really need to be a front page story?? hahaha I don't care if he is wearing a Flames jersey, this guy is a tool and I wished Bell would make him pay every cent of it. Plus I hope the MPAA goes after him for illegally downloading movies too.

think of plugging your computer into the cell phone 'outlet' instead of the telephone 'outlet' at home - that is basically what he did - he used his cell phone, and all the wireless data charges that go along with it, as a modem for his pirated movie downloading...
^ re headline above - its the sun, what else did you expect? hell, im getting ticked off just looking at it.

My brother had a 14k air card bill for the very same thing with telus... his very first bill was for that amount. He called them up and reminded them of the 3 months Unlimited usage included in thier package and after a few hours, credited him the 14k .....
PHEW... life lesson no doubt...

this guy deserves to pay every penny.
anyone who is stupid enough to think that it is a good idea to download movies to your computer by using your cell phone as the modem deserves a darwin award.
was this his first month of service? if it wasn't im sure he knows how expensive the bandwith charges are with cell phone companies.
anyone else notice he's wearing a flames jersey... I wonder if he's a CPer?

That was the first thing I thought when I saw the Sun cover. Some guy is paying $85000 to browse CP from wherever he is.

the question is which cost more, the production of the movie, or this guy downloading the movie on his cell phone.

Thats kind of irrelevant to his whole complaint. Its in his contract at $15/mb, he used it, he paid it.
It would be like me being pissed off about paying $100,000 for a Porche because the parts are only worth $20,000. I still accepted and bought it, there's no point in complaining after the fact about being a doofus.

Not denying that.. Just think that charging someone $85,000 for a service that doesnt actually do anything but transmit electronic signals is ludicrious.. You could buy a brand new porsche cayman for that kind of money.. Besides bell just piggy backs off telus infrastructure, I really doubt they paid more than a few hundred for all that usage..
