Yep exactly -- this happens all the time because basically we suck at doing our job. Radar traps and eating doughnuts are our specialties.

If only the CPS could find a way to make money off of B&E's, then perhaps they would put some time into them.

Sadly I agree with this. Like I said in my post there is no reasonable excuse to not show up for 2 months (that was with us phoning and leaving messages every week.) Especially when we had names of those involved or those who at least knew who the car theif was.
I don't often criticize cops, a couple of friends of mine are part of the CPS in fact. I understand they are busy etc, but what happened in our situation was absolutely uncalled for. At times it does seem that the police force is used to generate money. There is no hesitation in pulling me over for going 10 over the speed limit (yes I was actually pulled over and ticketed for goig 60 in a 50) but when there is an opportunity to catch a car thief, and a guy who's robbed several cars, no response.

Just an update - the total number of break-ins came to 32, 12 of which were smashed windows, what I noticed and reported. For the locks they broke, they executed picture-perfect on the Toyotas, Hondas, and Mazdas. A few Infinitis, Audis, and BMW's also got the brunt of it. They did, however, leave my crappy Mazda 626 and the new Ferarri a few stalls down.
Un-freakin'-believable.

Oh to have a civilian taser at a time like this.
I'm excitedly waiting for the GI Joe line to release the Go Joe Taser in cammo green, and for the girls the Barbie tickle me taser with pink coloring.

My cousin had his house garage broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen. He phoned the police to report it, when they asked where he lived he gave them his address and the cop said "By the C-Train station? Well what do you expect?" like it was my cousins fault. It seems like they just don't give a crap about B&Es or anything that might require a little bit of work and would prefer the instant gratification of speed traps and U-turn tickets.
I guess maybe if Calgary could attact the amount of officers it needs to at least run at par for a city of its size things might change, but even then I'd be hesitant to count on it.

i just don't get this. My buddy drives a Caddi so he's been broken into to twice since he moved here. The first time they stole his ashtray full of pennies. The second time they stole his school backpack The backpack I understand the theory of a computer in it, but all he had was his college books and notes. Its just such an inconvenience. He has to go take his window to get fixed, replace his books, and his notes. Its just a pain in the a$$.

On the other side of the coin, I was broken into 2 years ago (right around this time of year) and when I called there was a car there withing 1/2 an hour, while one officer took my statement the other checked up and down the back alley and went door to door asking if our neighbours had seen anything.
Nothing was found, but at the time of the occurrence I thought the officers who responded did a very good job.

Had my car broken into 2 winters ago in Edmonton. The most annoying thing, they broke the driver side window so I am driving in minus 30 for 2-3 days.
Luckly it was at my friends place so i didn't have to sit on glass all the way home, we just vaccuumed of it out.

You know, now that I think of it the Calgary Police have been nothing but useless for me.
They're great at writing up speeding tickets, but when I had 2 different motorbikes stolen they didn't do a thing. All my follow up calls were met with disinterest and the standard "there's not much we can do".

Westgate Park, across Bow Trail from Westbrook Mall.
The whole place was a mess this morning, glass everywhere and belongings strewn all over the ground. They even found blood left by the perpetrators, but didn't bother lifting it saying it wasn't enough to justify processing, yet my brother's girlfriend's car had this blood smeared all over her seat.
Unbelievable that they don't process something like that, I have lost alot of confidence in the CPS. Also, they got annoyed with me when I told them on the phone that it was a guy and girl, and they thought I had said it was two guys - I clearly didn't.

Break in's are terrible, but re: the law abiding citizens on CP... if you speed 1kph over, you are a dangerous criminal and deserve jail.
I do hope these B&E masters get caught eventually. That is a ridiculous way to do things.

You know what the stupid thing is? Most of the time. they broke a $600 window for spare change. Most of these parkade bandits are after money, not goods. One interesting thing though, cars with seriously blinky alarm lights were spared as they didn't want to attract attention and give them more time to carprowl.
Were these the new Brava highrise condos?
Unfortuantely, the larger the parkade, the higher the likelyhood someone won't wait for the garage door to close, or buzz someone in. Access needs to be restricted going into the parkade from the lobby and rapid roll doors use.
