We drove it last year on my Red Bull induced, "leave at 4pm, instead of stopping keep going at Golden, Revelestoke, Kamloops, Hope, and arrive at Horseshoe Bay at 3:30am" the weekend before Christmas, headed to the inlaws on Van Isle.
To be honest, driving it night isn't probably the best for nerves if you're worried about animals or obviosuly not a night driver, although I don't think there's any sort of need for them to be crossing the highways as much in the dead of winter.
I acutally preferred it..that and the Coquihalla were terrible, snowing and poor visablitiy, the latter was down to 1.5 lanes as the snow plows had piled snow up in 1/2 the other lane, waiting for the blower to come by and blow it off the road (there's a reason those signs are 20 feet off the shoulder just before you get to Hope).
But, the only vehicles on the slippery roads are the big trucks, who are flying well over 110km at 1 am. You can see hem coming a ways away, and you have the road to yourself by about 2am.
Not a healthy thing to do regularly, but, much perferred the less stress of empty slippery roads at night then having to deal with changing lanes and being weary of people who ride the brake for long stretches during the day and are overly cautious, like would've been the case if that road was busy....or stuck behind an accident etc.

Werd, i am one of those leave at 2am and get to Kelowna for breakfast rather then leave at 10am and pull in after dinner types as well. night driving has never really bothered me, of course i wouldn't let the GF near the keys.

I'm the same way. However night driving through the Rogers Pass is not something i'd do in the winter.

I'm a night driver too. What's with those jerks that pull up behind you and follow? So annoying having headlights in the rearview. Isn't it common sense to keep a nice buffer between vehicles at night? Except trucks. I love pulling up behind a truck going 120. You can basically tailgate the guy knowing that a) you're not putting light into his mirrors, b) you can stop faster than he can, so if he hits the brakes, you'll be fine as long as you're on the ball and c) he'll take care of any wildlife on the road.
oh and of course d) his buddies have already radioed him warning of cops.

Ditto here for night driving as said above. But as for highway conditions, what about #93 through to Jasper? I'm familiar with the Yellowhead pass, but not that stretch this time of year.

Not only is Highway 1 closed but so is Highway 95 from Radium to Golden and Highway 3 around Sparwood. If you need to get into BC today I guess head to the airport.

The Coquihalla can be terrible. So can that highway from Banff to Jasper. I drove that one the day after New Years last year. It was pure snow and ice, and white outs the whole way.

And E, you can use him to increae your fuel mileage as he is cutting through the still air and you are basically being towed through the vacum he leaves behind him.
