Seriously though, it used to be provided through the big dairy processors; Alpha, Beatrice, etc. I used the service up to the early '90's.

LMAO at the father comment. I didn't realize the service was provided through the dairy companies. I thought it was a municipality thing. Although that would make sense as to why only some areas still have delivery and some don't.

And hey, that business is for my neighborhood, I haven't heard of anyone ever getting milk delivered.

Yah they did, i remember having milk in bags that they brought to the door, but i lived on the back of fishcreek park and racoons or other rodents ripped them open so we stopped getting milk from the milk drivers!

Yeah, powdered milk was popular when I was a kid. It was cheap and tasted awful, kind of like skim milk. If we were lucky it was mixed half and half with real milk, kind of like the 2% today.
Really dating myself but I remember the milk wagon being pulled by a horse through the alleys of Vancouver. They used glass one quart bottles and when it froze the paper cap would rise with the frozen milk. I don't think it was homogenized either so the cream would rise to the top.

I stopped at a gas station a few weekends ago, when I was coming home from a road trip, and they had both milk and orange juice in bags

I always thought it would be great to have milk waiting on the doorstep in the morning. Milk tastes better from glass.

Powdered milk is definitely nasty. I went to China 15 years ago for a month to visit relatives. They didn't have fresh milk, so I had to down a glass of powdered milk every single morning. I am forever grateful that I live in Canada, land of clean water and homogenized dairy.

You were still alive when they used horse-pulled wagons? I thought they stopped doing that a 100 years ago. J/K.

It was definitely great to not have to go out and buy milk. Would even be better now to have it delivered instead of trekking out out in 20 below weather to buy just 1 carton of milk. Seems like such a waste. And then I always inevitably buy junk food just to make the trip "worth it".

Milk in bags is still also the norm in Ontario. I hated it. If you didn't have a free jug to put the bag into then it was difficult to access the milk without making a mess.

Milkman is useless. Why have one or two things delivered when you still need to hit the grocery store at least weekly if you eat anything from the produce section.

Now, if he delivered lettuce, spinach, red peppers and cucumbers along with the half liter of milk I consume in a week, he'd be worth paying.

When I lived in the sticks, before moving into town, it was a pain in the thump to go out just for milk .... and it seemed every week or two I'd have to do it. Now that I'm in town, it's maybe a mile to the store, much better, and they sell milk in glass You're right, though, junk food and cookies make the trip for milk worth while.

You should consider subscribing to a grocery delivery service then. I know a couple grocery stores that do it. No idea which specifically, but should be easy to find out.

I can understand the appeal of a delivery service. I like my veggies but I don't eat them regularly because I'll run out and it'll be two or three days before my urges completely overtake me and I go to the grocery store. So then I'll buy a bunch of produce and then eat almost only greens for a week until they're gone. Then its a strict meat and canned diet for a few days until I go to the store again.

If I had someone bringing me a big bag of the pre-washed lettuce and some peppers and whatnot, I'd eat well 6 days a week. Sundays will always be caeser sunday as long as I'm a football fan.

So far today I've consumed ~10 oatmeal cookies, 1 can of peaches, 6 beers, 1 can of coke, 1 Gibsons on the rocks and 2 smokies with mustard and ranch. Salad is not in the forecast.
