That's what you think happens.

I can't speak for Canada Post of course, but the USPS only returns mail if the sender has paid for that service.

One thing I do with junk mail is mail back all of the postage paid envelopes that I get. At least it costs the junk mailer return postage as a penalty. If I have the time, I'll stuff the Amex garbage in the Capital One envelope, the Capital One garbage in the CIBC envelope, the Rogers junk in the Telus envelope etc. I make sure a load up the envelopes with as much other junk as possible too to max out the weight ... if the weight is over 50 grams they pay more postage, if it's over 100 grams it's more again. It's a bit petty, but it gives me some satisfaction to know they have to pay to get all their garbage back.

I'm pretty sure Canada Post is the same way. That service exists mainly for business mail ... like magazines and addressed ad mail. I don't think it applies to standard private mail service.

Didnt you guys see on the news recently where mailmen were getting in trouble for not delivering junk mail? This is a big revenue generator for CanadaPost.

My MP must love all the junk mail he gets.
