Just called bestbuy costumer support to ask why macbooks are higher priced in the Canadian stores. He it's on 'select items only'.
How is this not false advertising?

Q: Will you match the price of a product if it's lower at BestBuy.com?
A: Unfortunately, our lowest price guarantee applies only to prices advertised by other Canadian companies.

OK, here is a question: If their picture ad says "US price match" isn't that misleading and aren't there rules against it?
Speaking of price matching, Memory Express does it as a store policy ($CDN, I don't know about $US). However, it adds on the shipping charge for out-of-town retailer prices, according to one of their sales geeks. That at least makes sense.

Yeah it is totally false advertising. Whatever. I hate best buy and future shop. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

This actually goes the same for places like Hallmark. I get complaint after complaint. At one point someone was so rude to me that I was ready to break down and cry. He literally bitched me out and told me that I was useless human being because I couldn't charge him the US price. And honestly, think about it, what do you expect me to do? Lose my job so that you can save 50 cents?
So for all those who want to let companies know that you are unhappy with the pricing, instead of making some employee miserable, so that they will pass that on to their manager, just ask for the number or email for head office and give head office hell.

It's blatant ignorance that causes people to be hostile with employees. It's wrong and people who do that should be ashamed of themselves.
Canadian businesses also need to do a better job of educationing the consumer as to why their prices are that much higher. They need to shoulder some of the blame for employee abuse also.
As for calling or emailing the head office - been there done that with little satisfaction. The bottom line is what gets businesses to take notice. Fortunately some are and are adjusting their prices downward.

Sadly, people who are hostile don't seem to feel any remorse for what they're doing.

I wholly agree. People need to be better educated as to why things happen instead of taking out their frustrations on the most available people around. Many times, situations can be completely diffused by just explaining to the consumer what is actually going on. Although there are the random jerks that make life a living hell.

I throw out complaining to head office because it directs the negative energy to an entity more able to make changes. I'm sure that they know consumers are unhappy, but in this way, there's more pressure so the companies will maybe adjust sooner rather than later.

Yep, nice try by Best Buy. It is more of a progaganda effort than a price lowering effort.
The Panasonic 50" 720p Plasma (TH50PX75) is $2199.99 here.
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...gon=&langid=EN
The same TV is $1699.99 at Best Buy in the US.

$500 is quite the difference to call it even! How stupid do they think the average consumer is?

Most US retailers will not ship a plasma to Canada. In the rare case that they do, it costs a TON. The only way to get one from the US is to go get it yourself.

I'm in the U.S. now and he missus and I went to a Best Buy here to check prices on some electronics stuff. The prices here are identical to those in Canada,to the penny. I don't have time to check other stores but I figured BB has some of the best prices. We won't be buying down here.

I think this is going to backfire on BB. My first reaction to seeing the ad on the front page of their site was to go to the US site and compare the price. The first thing I checked was less in the US than Canada.
It really is bull, but not surprising when you consider the control big business has on consumers. They know they can get away with it on a large scale, and it will only continue.

I was at an Apple store in Seattle on the weekend and the price difference was negligible at best on Ipods. Also clothes I bought at Old Navy and American Eagle in Chinook Centre were priced exactly to the penny the same in Washington.
The only real difference was at the Outlet stores.

On big ticket TV's, the price difference can be substantial, when looking at the Canadian and US website for Best Buy.
Are the price in store cheaper down there?

This is only true for companies that have operations in both Canada and the US such as BestBuy and Amazon. I bought my plasma TV off ebay and while shipping was expensive ($329), the TV was such a low price that I still ended up saving $600.

I bought my Harmon Kardon receiver last week from the US and saved almost $1000 dollars, even after shipping.
Unless I can get the item for the exact same cost in the US, I will always purchase Stateside.

huh...you worked at hallmark? Not sure if it was you, but while lining up I saw a customer bitching out this cashier once. In an attempt to break the customer's ranting and give the cashier a break, I yelled out "HEY, STOP HOLDING UP THE LINE!" He was a bit freaked out cause he thought I was gonna kick his ass.

Lol, I still work at Hallmark. God, I wish someone would have done that for me. I've been told that I can get charged if I hit a customer. So I thank you on behalf of that cashier.

I went to buy a magazine at Walmart last week and noticed some of them now only have the Canadian price printed on them where before they had both CDN and American. The prices were the same too as they've always been, no reduction in price at all. Totally lame. You still get 10% off the price but Walmart's always done for a long time and it's still ends up being more than the American price.

I know that superstore is doing 25% off the CDN price on all there books, that's more of a reason to shop there vs. Chapters. I did the same thing I walked into Chapteres asked if they are charging Canadian or US price, the employee said US, and I calmly told him I would take my business elsewhere.
