2113: GOAL England 1-2 Croatia
Josip Simunic tugs back Jermain Defoe and the Swedish linesman flags. Say what you like about Frank Lampard's performance so far but he keeps a very cool head to slot in the kick. England have (yet another) lifeline.

About 35 minutes to go - high drama/comedy at Wembley.

Croatia nearly scores a third goal:

2115: Oh my word. Wayne Bridge's attempted clearance as Ivica Olic closes in hits the top of the bar and from the corner Olic heads straight at Scott Carson. I don't think my heart can take it.

It's ENGLAND. You'd be stressed too!

I wonder if England don't make it they will blame their own weather and stadium.

England has more lives than a cat:

2122: GOAL England 2-2 Croatia
The script was written wasn't it? David Beckham produces the cross of the night so far and Peter Crouch chests the ball down brilliantly before lashing it into the corner. Arise Sir David.

That was a nice goal by Crouch. Good job on England to battle back. I felt the penalty was a bit weak though. Thoughts?

As overrated as Beckham is... and he is... the man has a long ball like few else.

And just like that, England are spared the degradation of missing out on Euro 08... for now.

England really do need circus music as their theme song ....

Glad Crouch scored though

What a roller-coaster (the swings in emotion on the BBC site are fascinating):

2134: GOAL England 2-3 Croatia
Oh. Substitute Mladen Petric hammers a stunning 25-yard left-foot shot across Scott Carson and into the bottom corner. Great strike and a hammer-blow for England.

15 minutes from elimination . . .

10 minutes . . .

Spoke to soon. Nice finish on the 3rd goal. Pru must be a happy camper right now. Her and Brad must be celebrating.

Even though I'm English does this team really deserve to qualify? Of course, I would like them to but if they fail to qualify at least we'll be shut of McLaren. What a rollercoaster of a game....

Did they lose on purpose to get favorable seeding?

That's why I said... "for now"

And apparently it was very prophetic. Disgusting performance by England, poor management by McClaren, and now the emtire British Isles are minutes away from being totally shut out of Euro 2008.

I don't know.... They have won most of their qualifying games in FIFA and UEFA competitions in the last couple years, so they should be ranked in the first pool of countries anyway.

They could have their own 5-nations tournament next summer

LOL Awesome!

Yeah, they should... they can invite Canada or the Faroe Islands to be the sixth beating boy.
