With the exception of Amber Alerts, the rest of this news is trivial. How does the Mulroney Affair matter to me going forward with my life? So water meters are going to be installed...Does that really affect us in any significant way?
The point is, what we consider 'news' in this part of the world (Western world) is completely absurd.
What about the effects of peak oil on western ways of living? What about the tens of thousands who die every day all over the world? Why has there been no investigations into the WMD fiasco in Iraq? What ever happened to WTC 7? What about the growing number of countries that are thinking about abandoning the US currency in their reserve holdings?
There are absolutely no stories about how the world is changing, even in a time when the world is changing at a pace never seen before.
The closest western media gets to these news stories is when they call the supporters 'misfits' or 'conspiracy theorists'. The media control in today's world is more tightly controlled than it ever has been, which is somewhat remarkable when you consider the internet.
The purpose of news is to report and let the audiance form an opinion on an event which is prevalent. Today's top 3 stories on cnn.com are the new OJ trial, Barry bonds in some sort of trouble, and a cyclone in Bangladesh. Granted, a cyclone is news worthy, but none of these stories allow a viewer to think for themselves.
The growing number of critics about 9/11, and the implications of what a possible hidden truth could be motivated by are forcing corporatacasy to blind the eyes of the American people to an extent that is on the tipping point of unbelievable, even to the average viewer.
